Should Democrats Subpoena Mike Pence?

But it is critical to hear from Mike Pence. Pence put aside his personal values and beliefs for four years as a loyal soldier to President Trump.
Pence would seem to know where a lot of skeletons are buried on January 6th and over the past four years of a president who believes the 2nd Amendment gives him the right to do whatever he wants.

While it's highly unlikely 17 Republicans will defy their base, testimony from Mike Pence under oath would shed a great deal of light on John Bolton's allegation that obstruction of justice was a "way of life" in the Trump White House.

Democrats Disarm Themselves Before Trump’s Senate Impeachment Trial | Ralph Nader

"Democrats should have subpoenaed Trump and Pence immediately after the House impeached Trump on January 13, 2021.

"Trump has spurned an invitation to testify voluntarily under oath by lead House manager Jamie Raskin (D-MD). House and Senate Democrats should know the hazards of declining to issue a trial subpoena to Mr. Trump because special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation was compromised by his failure to do so."

Mike ? How you gonna get a subpoena to him ???
No govt. court would be able to find him and serve him.
The IRS can find him in 15 min.
Maybe Trump's lynch mob can find him?

America Needs to Hear From Mike Pence

"Yet Pence is nowhere to be seen. He has gone silent, dropped off the political radar, after he attended Biden’s inauguration on January 20th and then left office.

"His decision to ensure the peaceful transfer of power over Trump’s objections tainted him in the eyes of the MAGA diehards; testifying as a witness in the ongoing impeachment trial would require leaving behind that movement — and much of the Republican base — for good."

Pence is a "Christian", and like all good "Christians", he takes his martyrdom seriously. He would die on that hill for Donald Trump, being the vassal that he has always been to his crime boss.
Pence has invested the last four years of his life in positioning himself for the 2024 primaries; how would testifying honestly about Trump's epic corruption affect that ambition?

The fact that House Managers investigated the matter and didn't find what Pence knew to be relevant tells me he didn't have any incriminating testimony at all.
When did House Managers interview Mike Pence?

I don't know, but they should have- if they think he knows something.

That's what prosecutors do, and if they don't they are negligent and worthy of contempt.

One thing for sure is that no prosecutors puts someone on the stand who they don't know what they will say.

Lol. Doesn't matter. The entire show is just kabuki theatre and means absolutely nothing. Trump isn't getting convicted of anything because there was nothing there. Lol. Its just an avenue for dems to cry rivers of tears and talk about their emotions and feelings.

It's critical to the prosecution to bring witnesses. They did a great job presenting the evidence against Trump - enough to stir strong emotions in even the GOP Senators.
Those GOP Senators were victims as well as eye-witnesses to the violence inflicted by Trump's MAGA mob. Some of them probably did not know how close they came to confronting armed insurrectionist in the halls of congress before House Managers began their presentations.

Possibly Oval Office eye-witnesses who would testify to Trump's alleged satisfaction with the rioters breeching the Capitol would inspire some GOP minds to change, but it is hard to escape the reality any minds that change today will face a well-funded primary challenge the next time they run for reelection.

Alleged satisfaction after the fact doesn't prove collusion before the fact.

I think that kind of testimony wouldn't be allowed as prejudicial

Pence can add nothing because he left the capitol early on. He told Trump that he was leaving.
Why didn't Trump contact Pence for days after the insurrection?

the something is here:

Trump speaks in code:

None of Trump’s statements explicitly told the mob to attack the Capitol, but the mob understood from the code what he seemed to want, and it wasn’t a peaceful protest. When Trump told the crowd to “show strength,” Trump’s supporters shouted “Invade the Capitol building,” “Let’s take the Capitol” and “Take the Capitol now.” Do sophisticated Republican senators really think that the mob left the Ellipse in a peaceful mood and then spontaneously self-incited on their way to the Capitol?

The House Managers would have had no reason to interview Pence unless they expected to call him as a witness. Since both parties seem committed to a speedy conclusion to this trial, it seems like witnesses are optional in this trial just as they were in Trump's first impeachment.

If there is one star witness available to Democrats in Trump's second impeachment trial, it is his loyal VP:

America Needs to Hear from Mike Pence

"To call the former vice president a key figure in the events preceding and during the deadly January 6th insurrection would understate the matter.

"Pence amplified Trump during the president’s year-long campaign to undermine the integrity of the 2020 election, Pence remained in the executive branch during Trump’s post-election crusade to overturn the outcome, Pence presided over the Electoral College certification, and Pence ran for his life as the MAGA faithful used violence to try to stop that certification — all of this makes him the ultimate character witness and fact witness.

"He was also a target and a victim, as the chilling footage presented Wednesday by the House impeachment managers showed, fleeing to safety that day just moments before a mob seeking to kill him breached the Capitol’s inner sanctum."

If Mike was forced to testify under oath about the events of January 6th (or resort to filing lawsuits to avoid testifying) how would that affect his 2024 POTUS prospects?
Yeah, I've been wondering about this, or even if Pence would volunteer, after getting stabbed in the back by Trump, and later left for dead at the Capitol.

Even that wouldn't be enough with the craven Republicans, though. But it would add to the pile for later.

Are you saying the MAGA mob did not attack the US Capitol, or Trump had no role in inciting the assault?

FBI is investigating 37 people over death of Capitol cop

A fitting end to this embarrassment to the left would be subpoenaing Maxine Watters. That complete fool would be hilarious.

You think there's going to be a "later". Hahahha. Yeah. The tax return thingy. Hahaha.

Part of the article of impeachment is accusing Trump of dereliction of duty for his failure to try to stop the mob and his failure t send the national guard.

Trump's state of mind during and after the attack is relevant.

Pence hitched his political future to Trump four years ago, and now he's between the proverbial GOP rock and hard place

America Needs to Hear From Mike Pence

"'I think he’s (Pence) trying to avoid the spotlight and run out the clock, and then see how things play out,' says Tim Miller, a former Republican political operative and Trump critic... 'No matter what you think about how the Republican Party evolves over the next four years, it’s really hard to imagine a situation where someone that actively testifies against him (Trump) becomes the nominee.'"
Pence remains out of the limelight with 2024 around the corner

Depending on how the 2022 mid-terms turn out, Republican POTUS primary candidates in 2024 will have to appeal to a pair of very different electors unless Trump is prosecuted to the full extent of criminal law in multiple courtrooms before the primaries begin.
