Should soldiers be armed?

Asclepias

Wrong... Mentally unstable people tend to get thrown out of the military...

Or they don't join in the first place (Libs).
Wrong. I was in the military with some nutcases. I observed them first hand.
We ain't exactly talking about arming ISIS here, boy. We're talking about arming OUR military.
I didnt say anything about ISIS you monkey. I said there were too many nutcases in the military to trust them with weapons on US soil unless they were on guard duty. Another issue with that is "lost" weapons ending up on the streets.

At least arm the freaking Military Police. When the jihad Major murdered a dozen of his own Soldiers at Ft. Hood there wasn't a gun on the base and they had to call 911 while he was reloading. I had occasion to visit Ft. Myer in Washington a couple of years ago and the sloppy security company that checks the visitor cars was armed to the teeth.
yeah... the mps were armed at ft. hood.

I'm beginning to think they should be armed. Had they been armed the tragedies on those bases wouldn't have happened or if they did they wouldn't have been as bad.

Something that should be re thought by the Joint Chief's.

And how long did it take to get there....how many dead before they arrived and how lucky was the woman who shot the killer......?

where would person in acus conceal a weapon?

In standard utility uniforms it would be easy to conceal a pistol......
where?

Who in the hell gives a damned where they'd hide them? And why even bother to hide them. There are such things as holsters and slings.

Carry them openly and tell the world if you bring a gun you're gonna get a whole lot of return fire.

You dont need to conceal your weapon when on guard duty. Its a deterrent.
Scott directed Adjutant Gen. Michael Calhoun to temporarily move National Guard members from six "storefront" recruitment centers to armories. Also, he ordered Calhoun to work with local law-enforcement agencies to arrange regular security checks of armories and said the state will expedite processing of new concealed-weapons licenses for members of the National Guard.

"We're going to do everything we can to make sure that all of our National Guard members are safe,'' Scott, who was scheduled to hold a late-afternoon news conference in West Palm Beach, said during a CNN interview.

The executive order said Guard members will be moved from the recruitment centers to armories until Calhoun "can fully evaluate and make recommendations for improving the security" of the centers. It said possible improvements could include installing bulletproof glass and enhancing video-surveillance equipment.

The move to expedite new concealed-weapons licenses would apply to Guard members who do not have such permits. Scott said during the CNN interview that the move is designed for "personal protection when they are not on duty."

Not knowing who is armed is also a deterrent. If they make a big announcement it will send the message.

Most armories aren't staffed by armed personel either....at least when I was in.

never have much understood the recruitment centers in retail areas. figure if you want to join the guard the least you can do is make your way to an armory.

A soldier is trained and trusted to deliver hundreds of thousands of dollars of ordinance on top of the enemies heads, but cant be trusted to carry a loaded .45?

That might make sense to an idiot or an ideologue, but I doubt so much to an ordinary person.

my experience is that they aren't either, but then i just visit from time to time.
however, some have pylons that only allow cars to get so close, others have double doors with the inner set locked, offices off to the side.

Are they going to be given real psychological evals before giving them concealed weapons permits?
