There will be no choice.
Mexico has become a Narco state.

Since most of the revenue comes from the US, we are already deeply involved.
As the violence rises and the death toll here climbs, the only choice will be military action.

The wall can't stop the cartels. They'll simply threaten and or payoff everyone (and their families) who works on both sides of the border points of entry.

But as always.....a LOT of innocent people are gonna have to die first.

Biggest concern should be that, just as Maduro coddles the cartels in Venezuela for their billions, Democrats in the US will coddle the cartels in the USA once they regain power.

Since no one's is going to do anything.....looking for an escape route. Few left.

The Mexican Drug war exists to supply our own drug war
Decriminalize and deemphasize our drug laws

Excellent advice......Xi Jinping! .

Wonderful to see how much you care for Americans having equal opportunity access to your fentanyl. Does a nation good
(except that you execute people for using it at home in China)

IT is beyond reason, that Mexican criminal organizations pump poison into our country that kills around 70k American citizens each year, and our government does not consider them terrorists.

The Mexican government cannot control these fiends at all, none whatsoever. If the Cartels demand that the Mexican government release criminals, the government does so. They need our help but will not ask for it for fear of what the Drug Cartels might do.

The Mexican government is by definition a failed and helpless government, a fiction no better than the Somali government.

Failed state - Wikipedia

A failed state is a political body that has disintegrated to a point where basic conditions and responsibilities of a sovereign government no longer function properly (see also fragile state and state collapse). A state can also fail if the government loses its legitimacy even if it is performing its functions properly. For a stable state it is necessary for the government to enjoy both effectiveness and legitimacy. Likewise, when a nation weakens and its standard of living declines, it introduces the possibility of total governmental collapse. The Fund for Peace characterizes a failed state as having the following characteristics:

Common characteristics of a failing state include a central government so weak or ineffective that it has an inability to raise taxes or other support, and has little practical control over much of its territory and hence there is a non-provision of public services. When this happens, widespread corruption and criminality, the intervention of state and non-state actors, the appearance of refugees and the involuntary movement of populations, sharp economic decline, and foreign military intervention can occur.[1]

The level of government control required to avoid being considered a failed state varies considerably amongst authorities.[2] Furthermore, the declaration that a state has "failed" is generally controversial and, when made authoritatively, may carry significant geopolitical consequences

Mexico is a failed state.

But what should we do about it? Stop worrying about every tiny nation in the Middle Easta nd start protecting our own citizens first? Declare martial law? What?

We cannot invade...we would have to conquer and that would almost be Genocidal.....it could reach that point though.
We would actually have to annex the place to make it work and throw out the current court system placing death penalties and
rapid execution dates in as a priority for things other than murder. Not sure it could be done.

What we actually can do and should do is to inform the Mexican President if he is not with us ...he is against us...as in that we are going to use our drones to attack the drug cartels ...their operatives and their leadership---will be attacked any time we can identify them.

Furthermore if the Mexican government refuses to ally with us in our offensive against the cartels then we will put sanctions on Mexico.

Here at home we need to impose the death penalty on major players in the illegal drug business.

We need a huge crackdown on cartel operatives who come and go out of the U.S. Hunt them down, arrest them, give them a fair trial and execute them.

Should We Invade Mexico and End Their Drug Civil War?

Only if we take to opportunity to also boot 20 million illegals.
They would never have been here at all if americans had been willing to pay more for goods and services resulting from hiring your fellow citizens.

Hell with Mexico

We need to invade Canada
They have been sneaking across our border, drinking our beer and stealing our women
If you dont have a serious answer to a serious question why waste our time and bandwidth with nonsense?

Your reply was silly

Yup.

Now let's boot 20 million illegals.

Well it would make more sense than using American troops to protect the King of Saudi Arabia.

Build a giant wall. Exile leftwing lunatics to Mexico, let them try diplomacy with the cartels.

We need to stop the drugs from coming across the border. Secure our border.

The Mexicans have more people than the Cartels...............they need to grow a set...........kill the cartels and take back their country..............and STOP RUNNING.

They have great beaches on both coasts...........mineral deposits..............oil...........and they are a shit hole. They did this to themselves.............Their responsibility.

I guess the next question would be how many of our politicians do you think are actually working for those bastards?

Other - If it isn't already taking place, I'd support sending in American military drones in a cooperative effort with the Mexican government.

So, when you purchase goods, or services, you no doubt look for the most expensive you can find right?

The incursion would not defeat the cartels, for several reasons that trump would do well to ponder. To begin with, America starts its wars by overestimating its own powers, underestimating the enemy, and misunderstanding the kind of war on which it is embarking. The is exactly what Trump seems to be doing.
..............
Other problems exist. Many, many of them.

Let’s consider terrain. Terrain is what militaries fight in. Start with the Sierra Madre, which I suspect Trump doesn’t know from Madre Teresa. This is the brutally inhospitable mountain range in the northwest of Mexico, from which a great many of the narcos come.(Sinaloa is next door.) Forestation is dense, slopes steep, communication only by narrow trails that the natives know as well as you know how to find your bathroom. Nobody else knows them. American infantry would be helpless here. The Narcos would be found only when they chose to be found, which would not be at opportune moments.
..............
FredInvade-2.png

Some other northern Mexican terrain. The Duarte Bridge between Sinaloa and Durango. A company commander, looking at it, would would have PTSD in advance, just to get a start on things.
.............

In cities and towns, narcos are indistinguishable from the general population. How–precisely how, I want to know–would American troops, kitted out in body armor and goggles and looking like idiots, fight the narcos in villages with which they were unfamiliar? The narcos, well armed, would pick off GIs from windows, whereupon the Americans would respond by firing at random, calling in air strikes, and otherwise killing locals. These would now hate Americans. The narcos know this. They would use it.
........

Why doesn't anyone consider the failures here vs the failures elsewhere- the old saying clean your own back yard before complaining about someone else's comes to mind.
