But tragically, we are CHOOSING to ALLOW our culture to decay.

We continue to CHOOSE to lower standards, and the results are predictable.

I realize it is hard to constantly keep remembering that we must try and maintain a comfortable perspective on all we see coming at us a million miles a second.

The information could make even the most level headed American crazy. We did demand the technology and we keep claiming we need to know the truth.

Myself..I like to take my dose of "reality" in bite size chunks. Keep the TV set off unless I really feel I am in the mood to "be in the know".

Stay away from the computer if I don't feel up to the barrage of useless and depressing information.

I find it helps to just push the mute button when commercials come on. I really don't like to constantly listen to sales pitches so I make the effort to intervine on the stupid messages just for my own comfort.

You are in control. We can all limit the "noise" if we just take the time to value our sanity.

I agree.

We are much better off now than at any other time in our history. Children are not getting worse, parenting is not getting worse.

The biggest difference is communication. Thanks to the internet, we hear every single nasty crime and blow each of the all out of proportion. It makes us believe that things are worse now than in some unspecified time in the past.

We have always had sickos that hurt children and animals, beat up and raped women. There have always been people who stole from others and there have always been rich who trampled the poor in order to get richer.

There are no "good old days" to mourn.

I agree completely that we need to turn off the computer and the TV. And I love the mute button on the remote. Go outside, go for a walk, read to your kids, talk to each other.

If you don't want your kids to have foul mouths and lazy brains, show them how its done. Work with their teachers instead of against them. Work for better working conditions and better pay.

However, we are in danger of losing much of what we have gained. We insist on giving out rights and our power to 2% of our population. That's as it has always been but that doesn't mean we should just lay down and accept our place in their plan.

If enough people just shut out all the gratuitous sex and violence, if we just ignore whateverthefuck some stupid pop star got tattooed, if everyone refuses to take a political side in arguments over taste levels, then entertainment media will gradually swing back to quality output.

I hear ya. Like, The Learning Channel. That shows crap like Kardashians, Honey Boo Boo (yuk), and other crappy stuff that you learn is nothing BUT crap.
