Since Obama- Why America is not Coming Back

You can't come back when you don't know where you're going...Obabble has no clue,no map,no experience. He is a bad dream.

Presidents have very little influence over the economy. Even Congress doesn't have much influence over the economy. The cycle is beginning to turn. Give it another three to seven years, and the US economy is going to be booming. The stock market is going to double twice in the next fifteen years. In order for that to happen, Main Street will need to be booming also, and it will be.
By appointing an Attorney General who would have sought criminal convictions of those bankers and Wall Streeters whose actions led to ruin of the Economy, President Obama would have had quite a bit of influence over it.

I was for Obama at the outset but I no longer fall for his bullshit. I see him for what he is.

What frustrates rightwingers the most is that they just can't accept how abnormal they are;

they can't figure out why normal America doesn't hate President Obama as much as they do;

they can't figure out why the nonsensical stupidity that they pass around inside the cocoon of their abnormal unreality as brilliance isn't seen as brilliance by normal America.

oh boy, 48% voted AGAINST your dear leader to 50% for...

I'd say it is you who is abnormal..but we already knew that you lefties really believe you are the ONES...gods gift to the world..

now I go barf

A picture is (usually) worth a thousand words. This picture is worth a million.

This is a picture of exactly who Barack Obama is.

too bad the people he brought in for his crowing wasn't so pretty and neither has he been

We have two economies.

1. Wall Street: The economy for large publicly traded corporations and investors (the upper income brackets who have seen massive portfolio growth). The "Wall Street" economy has enjoyed unprecedented gains since the 80's. [This is not the economy the OP is talking about]

2) Main Street: this the economy for those whose principal earnings come from selling their labor on the open market. This economy also includes small business.

[Unlike the "Wall Street" economy, the "Main Street" economy is not coming back]

Here is what the OP, who is really just trying to spam Obama, doesn't understand.

From the 1930's to 1980, the Main Street economy was tied to the Wall Street economy by a host of government policies and regulations, from Labor policies to Trade policies. The goal was to ensure that the middle class participated fully in the profits and economic growth that was made off their backs. The result of this economic approach (call it demand-centered postwar liberalism) is often referred to as the Golden Age of Capitalism (reaching its apex in the 50s & 60s).

Why, you might ask, was this the Golden Age of Capitalism? For one, it was inclusive, that is, everyone shared in the benefits of economic growth, e.g., profits and wages rose together. Indeed, the high wages and benefits meant that American families could afford to consume like never before - and consume they did. This lead to trickle-up wealth in true Fordist fashion, with workers becoming a whole new class of consumers.

It gets even better. The high level of middle class consumption provided massive incentives to the capitalist, who was forced to innovate and hire more workers to capture all the money in middle class wallets. Also, the father was paid so much that families could afford to have the mother stay home and raise the kids. This was a conservative dream because it meant families could spend more time together. FYI: because Social Security allowed hard working families to escape the crushingly high cost of parental care, this meant those families had even more money for consumption, which was multiplied nicely into even more economic growth.

Problem is, there was a fly in the ointment. Corporations and wealthy investors did not want to pay such high labor/benefit costs. Companies like Nike and Walmart could realize higher profits if their products were made in freedom-hating dictator lead nations like China, Taiwan or [pick you banana republic in Latin America]. They could also make higher profits if they bought politicians and got them to defund middle class programs in favor of tax cuts to the wealthy.

Which is to say, if corporations could get Washington to sever the ties between the Wall Street economy and the Main Street economy - if they could bypass the expensive American middle class labor market and get their products made by ultra cheap labor markets - than they would realize higher profits.

They just needed a powerful president who would help them do it.

Enter Ronald Reagan, who would free capital (Wall Street) from its bondage to pricy middle class labor markets (Main Street). Indeed, starting with Reagan, America underwent a massive period of deindustrialization, as more and more jobs were shipped from Main Street to communist China.

The result of this shift was massive profits on top, coupled with a loss of jobs and a lowering of wages/benefits on the bottom. Wall Street exploded, Main Street died. This is why we started having "jobless recoveries" under Bush - profits were way up, but they no longer resulted in American jobs (because we shipped those jobs offshore to make those very profits possible)

The loss of jobs/wages meant Americans had less money to consume, which in turn hurt the domestic economy. How did Reagan fix this problem? Answer: by giving birth to the credit card consumer. Starting in 1980 household debt exploded as more and more families went into debt to stay afloat. This actually worked for roughly 30 years until eventually consumer debt and over-strained credit markets lead to our current terminal recession, which can't be fixed by the only tool we have in our arsenal: more credit, more debt, more borrowing.

After being detached from the economic growth of the Wall Street economy, the middle class became so hollowed out by 30 yrs of cheap labor policies & debt based consumption that they lost the ability to borrow the needed amount to return us to the consumption levels required for job growth.

So now a small collection of people enjoy all the benefits of economic growth. Given this, I think the OPs question should be reformulated to this: why isn't the middle class coming back? Why isn't the profit trickling down? Who benefits from the fact that all the benefits are now stuck on top, resulting in a class of people who now have enough money to control government through lobbying and election funding for the purpose of making sure that the Wall Street economy never again has to include the American middle class in the benefits of economic growth. Welcome to the third world.

America swallowed poison in 1980.

We Are Not Coming Back
Please take a moment to digest this provocative article by a Jewish Rabbifrom Teaneck , N.J.
It is far and away the most succinct and thoughtful explanation of how our nation is changing. The article appeared in The Israel National News, and is directed to Jewish readership. 70% of American Jews vote as Democrats. The Rabbi has some interesting comments in that regard.

Rabbi Steven Pruzansky is the spiritual leader of Congregation Bnai Yeshurun in Teaneck, New Jersey

Here is the link to the article for those who want to follow up

Why Romney Didn't Get Enough Votes to Win - Op-Eds - Israel National News

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"The most charitable way of explaining the election results of 2012 is that Americans voted for the status quo - for the incumbent President and for a divided Congress. They must enjoy gridlock, partisanship, incompetence, economic stagnation and avoidance of responsibility. And fewer people voted.
Copyright violation removed.
I'm always surprised by those on the Right who usually claim to love America have so little faith in it.
What frustrates rightwingers the most is that they just can't accept how abnormal they are;
Not everyone who voted against Obama qualifies as an abnormal rightwing mutant.
I agree mostly with the Rabbi, but why doesn't he discuss how the Zionists (Zionists are demonic usurpers of Judaism) are the ones orchestrating the downfall of the United States?
Anyway, he did the best he possibly could in a Zionist run newspaper.
Thank you, NYC. Most of us don't, although some of the reactionaries here do.
