Six cities dominate Americas economy

Um...actually there is no sales tax on any production machinery. Just sayin.
There are no sales taxes on any machinery, equipment or supplies that are used directly in manufacturing a product.

Point is....

Those Cities CREATE next to nothing. All they do is collect the money for the products that were made, mined or grown in other parts of the United States and pay the taxes on it.

THAT is why they show a disproportionate amount of GDP.

A Company in Ohio builds a Twenty Million Machine that they're shipping to Germany.

The German Company signs a contract to buy it and it is shipped to a Port in either New Yawk Shitty or Land of Bad Air (Chicago).

It is at THAT POINT that the machine is paid for by the German Company. Once it arrives at the Port of Call and is delivered to the Shipper, it is at that time that the money changes hands.

Even though the entire State of New Yawk or Illinois contributed not one fucking penny or one minute to the creation of the machine, they get the credit for the money.

And here's just one reason among many why....

Ohio has a Sales Tax.

If the money changes hands inside the borders of Ohio, Sales Tax MUST be paid.

On a $20 Million machine-- That's a lot of money.

If the money changes hands at a Port of Entry or Departure (usually one side of the same port) then no Sales Taxes are charged.

Also, the buyer doesn't want to pay for something ($20 Million) and have it risk being in a Train Wreck on the way to the Port.

Once the shipper takes possession of the cargo, he has a MILLIONS of dollars worth of Insurance that automatically apply to the product.

You people, you dimocraps... You're just honest to God fucking stupid.

You really are. I mean, irretrievably, irredeemably, irreversibly stupid.

I'm talking animal-dumb.

And you wonder why you can't compete in today's world?

Stupid bitches

Then why isn't the New Orleans area on this list? It has a massive amount of cargo going in and out of it's ports. Also, Chicago isn't anywhere close to being near the top of the list, there isn't much cargo coming in via Lake Michigan these days. What you just spent 10 minutes typing up is a pile of horse shit.

And when nation wide anarchy strikes, all those big cities will be filled with millions of dead people. They'll be the first to dehydrate, starve and kill each other over a rotten pack of hotdogs and half a bottle of water.

You can't eat money.

Country folks will survive.

Honey, POOR folks will survive. We're already ON the ground floor, have been, unnoticed, for more than a minute. It wasn't poor people throwing themselves out the top floor during the "Great Depression," sonny. Geographical divisions, like any divisions, merely make us scrap over scraps from the big people's pantry instead of demanding our rightful place at the TABLE.

Only if you start eating each other.

And so, you self-identify as part of the problem. Cool beanz. I spotted you, checked your schedule, and clocked you, long before this.

As to New Orleans... Ever heard of Katrina?

Chicago? Not much cargo? They rand 3rd on that idiotic list.

I was THERE when the Corps of Engineers raised the level of the St Lawrence Sea Way. It caused many, many houses on the Great Lakes to either lose their back yards or fall into the Lake completely.

The St Lawrence Seaway is one of the most important Sea Lanes in the world.

Because of the St Lawrence Seaway, big ports on the Great Lakes like Chicago aren't much further to Europe than is the port of New York.

All you know.... Well, you just don't much.

Anybody stupid enough to believe that those Cities actually PRODUCE that much GDP is too stupid to reason with

Do you have to take a lot of drugs to maintain your illusion of superiority or is it a naturally occurring delusion?

How just 6 cities dominate America's economy ? in one astonishing chart - The Week

New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington DC, Dallas, and Houston — account for nearly a quarter of the US economy. Further, America's top 23 metro areas make up nearly half of its GDP.

Other interesting facts from the report include:

– Out of the 100 largest economies in the world, 36 belong to U.S. metro areas.

– New York City ranks as the 13th largest economy in the world, surpassing countries like Spain, Mexico, and South Korea.

– New York and Los Angeles produce more than 46 of American states.

Twin Cities Metro came in #13.

Why do people even bother with this lunacy? Seriously. Do you think we're all as stupid as you are?.

If these places were actually PRODUCING all these goods, there would be so much wealth shared by the residents, we'd all be camping outside the City Limits waiting to get in.

Instead, people are FLEEING those festering pustules.

You people really aren't very bright. No wonder you're dimocraps.

The ignorance of economics present in what passes for the libturd brain is astonishing. Just simply astonishing.
Much less astonishing is the fact that that rightwinger has simply no idea at all how economic statistics such as GDP are calculated and believes that the value of exported wheat raised in Kansas is reported only in the economic measurements of the Port of New York and not in the measurements of the state of Kansas. This is not a theory, it is not even an idea; it is an absurd assumption which even five minutes of Google investigation would have dispelled.

There are readers as ignorant and as mentally lazy as this poster who will find his observation profound and his use of the word "libturd" amusing. These are today's conservatives.

Yeah profound stupidity is kind of his shtick.

Why do you keep making shit up?

The Port of Chicago is tiny, there is very little shipping these days on the great lakes. Most cargo arriving to Chicago is via train and some via airplane as well.

I've always wondered why the GDP is a valid measuring tool. It says Goods and Services. How much of these figures are services - or activities that do not MANUFACTURE anything?

Very antiquated thinking.

Katrina was in 2005, welcome to 2014.

The biggest reason these 6 metros dominate the US economy is because they are 6 of the 7 largest metros in the US. Philly is slightly larger than D.C. but doesn't have the spending of the federal government or the amount of tourism that D.C. has.

I'm not sure what all we produce here in LA, all I know is the porn industry is leaving because condom use is now required. You know things are bad when porn leaves you.

So a Wheat Growers Assn sells $100 Million Dollars of Kansas Wheat to the Chinese Government and tell me what happens?

I'll tell you since you have no clue.

A contract is signed. No money exchanges hands yet.

The grain is shipped by rail to the Port where it is accepted by the shipper and paid for.

The deal is recorded by the Shipper and taxes are witheld, as required by law.

If the departure port is Los Angeles, the transaction is recorded as a Los Angeles transaction ONLY taking place in a Port. No Sales Taxes are collected.

If export tariffs are due, they are collected by the shipping agent. They are sent to the United States Government along with a standard Income Tax deduction.

The transaction IS NOT RECORDED in Kansas. Or Nebraska. Maybe in your head, but not anywhere else.

Now, the PROFIT (if any) made by the Assn and its member IS reported to the Federal government... In particular, the US Treasury, the IRS.

But it's not recorded as GDP. It never sees any GDP (technically, GSP) list. Can't record it twice.

The sale took place in Los Angeles, NOT in Kansas.

When you get away from giant Port Cities, some of the GDP figures are right.

But this whole thing is just more mental masturbation on the part of the left.

Thinking that Dee-Troit Michigan is the 15th most important, richest hubs in the Country is beyond delusional.

It is simply a place where Autos and other machinery are shipped FROM. Not where they're made.

A great deal of our economy is imports and exports.

Imports and Exports are bought and sold at the Port of Entry and the Port of Departure.

Every time. All the time. Every.Single.Time.

So if we're exporting 100 Million Bushels of grain to Russia, it gets paid for at the Port.... Usually Chicago, sometimes New York.

If we're exporting hundreds of tonnes of beef to China, it gets paid for at the Port..... Usually Los Angeles.

If we're importing or exporting MILLIONS of barrels of oil, it gets paid for at the port.

So listen up, stupid.

The only thing happening at those places is the exchange.

The wheat is grown in Kansas, Michigan, Nebraska.... Wherever.

The Multi-Million dollar assembly robot is built in Ohio.

The oil is brought out of the ground in Saudi Arabi, Kuwait or UAE and is used all throughout the USA.

The beef is raised in the MidWest somewhere. I've never seen a Cattle Ranch in New Yawk Shitty. Or LA.

The ignorance of economics present in what passes for the libturd brain is astonishing. Just simply astonishing.

Are those places important? Yes, of course they are. But their econnmic importance is only as a port of call

Your antipathy is misplaced. Can the midwest buy and consume all it produces? No? Then it is a reciprocal (and codependent) relationship that you have with the people in the cities your goods are sold at. Does it have it's own ports to ship to other countries? Then your producers have a reciprocal (and dependent) relationship with the points of departure. Is the midwest completely self-contained? Are there NO goods and services you consume that you get from the metropolis? Think hard on that one.
Wow, you mean they work together?

Hold the fucking presses!

Not hardly.

You are obviously not very informed on the status of Louisiana ports.

A lot of producers are owned by conglomerates who operate out of places like New Yawk Shitty and Chicago.

Silver Mines R Us owns a shit-load of silver mines in Colorado. They do pretty well. Sell a lot of Silver. Millions of dollars worth.

But the sales are recorded where the Company is based.... Maybe New Yawk, maybe Chicago, but not in the foothills of the Rockies in Colorado.

Sure, the wages paid to the miners show up. They also generate some local economic activity in housing, etc.

But the real money? The big money?

It's recorded in New Yawk Shitty or Chi-Town.

People just don't understand economics.

Without the producers, these Big Cities are nothing more than open sores on the scrotum of society. They're just communications centers. They actually produce very little
