Don’t count on seeing electric garbage trucks plowing snow from city streets any time soon.
The city Department of Sanitation's goals to become carbon neutral are clashing with the limits of electric-powered vehicles.
The department aims to switch all 6,000 vehicles in its fleet from gas to electric as part of the state’s goal to reduce emissions by 2040. But city officials say they haven’t found electric garbage trucks that are powerful enough to plow snow.
The department has ordered seven electric rear loader garbage trucks, custom-made by Mack and costing more than $523,000 each, with delivery slated for the spring. Used for curbside trash collection, the department’s current rear loader truck fleet runs on diesel and is outfitted with plows to clear streets during snow season.

“How much power do they have? Can they run 12-hour shifts without a charge? I don't know,” Nespoli said.

“With current technology, full electrification isn’t possible now for some parts of our fleet, but we are monitoring closely and really hope it will be,” Gragnani said.

Look to lots more of these high-profile EV fails.
On the bright side. Each EV garbage truck that catches fire and burns clears about 80 feet of road of ice and snow.
All we need is another blizzard like 1947, 1960,1969, 1978, 1982, or 1996. EV plows will not be able to work straight 12 hour shifts or longer.

Just to remind everyone........the goal with electric vehicles, solar and wind energy, is not to have more, cheap, reliable energy. The goal of pushing electric vehicles, supported by unreliable, expensive energy, that is more and more limited .....is to reduce the ability of people to access that energy. The members of the global warming cult, and their communist buddies is to limit the ability of people to have more and more children, and to reduce their life options.....forcing them to live in cities, rather than spreading out, limiting how they live their lives and making it easier for a centralized, bureaucratic socialist state to dictate how they will live.

And the way they do this is by making energy expensive, limited, and unreliable.....

I watched my neighbour boost his son's gasoline powered car yesterday. Seems the son's battery was dead. Gasoline powered cars don't start in the cold either.

And he took 5 minutes to jump the battery and was on his way........or he simply got a brand new battery that didn't have to worry about it getting really cold out.........

Meanwhile, the British and Germans are freezing to death because they bought into the global warming religion and now can't heat their homes........

How long does it take to charge an electric car that doesn't have any battery life? Compared to jumping the standard battery?

And how do you get the electricity to the electric car stuck on the highway........?

Sorry Ted but you're no physicist or engineer, and don't understand that improvements from here on out will be incremental. It is physically impossible to make a battery 10X more efficient than they currently are, and even now, as it stands, fossil fuels have 5,000X the energy density of batteries.

Why else do you think it takes a 1,000 pound EV battery just to drive a car as far (under the BEST of conditions) as 80 pounds of gasoline?

The way to protect the planet is bio or other artificial fuel that used more carbon than it releases.
EVs make no sense because they are still not a source of energy, and batteries are way to heavy, expensive, low capacity, short lived, dirty, and flammable.

What you fail to understand is that when you tax the rich......that money goes to politicians who steal, lose or waste the money....they don't spend it on anything close to what they say they will spend it on, then they use dupes like you to demand more tax dollars so they can steal, waste and lose that money as well....as they all buy their 3rd and 4th homes on the coast.....
