The most poverty stricken area in the United States is Appalachia. Covering 13 Red States. Many who live there have no electricity and no running water. Many cut down trees to use for firewood to cook with and heat their homes in the winter. Life expectancy is down and infant mortality is up.

Most of these people voted for Trump to end the healthcare they received for the first time in their lives. Are they stupid? No. Trump promised them something better. Trump is a liar and the GOP simply doesn't give a fuk. And they are oh so screwed.

In Kentucky, a Trump stronghold, many fear losing Obamacare

Trump Country Worries About Replacing Obamacare

Every nation throughout all of history, has had it's poor. Do we help these people or let them starve?

What we should be doing is eliminating the Defense Dept (really War Dept), then use that money to HELP all Americans.
War on poverty cost
The War on Poverty has cost $22 trillion -- three times more than what the government has spent on all wars in American history. Federal and state governments spend $1 trillion in taxpayer dollars on America's 80 means-tested welfare programs annually.

Maybe if we got rid of the welfare program and put the money into the military, more people would get off their lazy ass and join, or work in an area that supports the defense of this country. Without our defense we wouldn't have a country, but liberals would love it as then Socialism wouldn't have an enemy to stop them.. Are you a Socialist?
I seem to remember another country that treated the military as an employment program. It started in 1933 and ended in 1945. The concept destroyed Europe in that time. But hey maybe this time it'll be different.
Only when the gun grabbers of 1933 took the weapons away from its citizens did that country go full on Socialist. Are you saying that the Socialist of this country can do it better?
And you of course can prove your assertion that Germany disarmed it's citizens when the Nazis came to power? In fact they loosened the gun laws for it's citizens when they rose to power. But then again this would require you to know history. As to your question. America has very few actual socialists. Neither can they be found in Europe in any large numbers. Having certain social safety nets doesn't make a person socialist. At least not how you would define it.
So were the German Jews, citizens of Germany or not?
You're kind of right, they relaxed gun control laws on it's citizens, while at the same time taken away citizenship and the rights going with that from the Jews. On the other hand it doesn't help the argument that gun control made the country socialist. Neither does it in any way rebuff my argument that using the military as an employment program is a historically bad idea.

Another day of rush limbaugh's army fighting against socialism for the little guy while the very wealty and corporations get free stuff all the time. Most of our wars are for corporate profit but yeah, worry more about some poor mom buying ding dongs on her EBT card.

Eventually people lose their will to work under socialism because they are getting everything free.
When that happens they have to be forced to work.
Socialism is like Government owning Slaves.
Notice how North Korea, East Germany...etc have to build walls to keep their people(slaves) from escaping.
Notice how Denmark and Sweden are among the happiest countries in the world? No one wants to escape their form of socialism. You don`t really know what socialism is do you?
wow 2 countries that have less people than most of our states are happy....could it be that 98% of their people are basically on the same page?...just asking...

Ironically, going into the military is about as socialist as it gets. I wonder why the OP didn't know that.

Hard to find a country anywhere in the world that does not have some socialism mixed into their system, including all the nations that have capitalism foundations. Maybe someone here can point to a nation in the world that does not use socialism one way or another.

2020 presidential candidate wants to give everyone $1,000 a month
Entrepreneur Andrew Yang has a big goal for a relatively unknown business person:to reach the White House. And he's aiming to get there by selling America on the idea that all citizens, ages 18-64, should get a check for $1,000 every month, no strings attached, from the U.S. government.
Yang, 43, who was born in upstate New York in 1975, will be running as a Democrat, according to his campaign website.
"People who think the antidote to Donald Trump is a boring generic Democrat missed the point. He is a sign of massive institutional failure. On both sides," Yang said on Reddit on April 2.
A universal basic income (UBI) payment, which Yang calls "the Freedom Dividend," is one of his major policies.
We have been giving people 22 trillion dollars since 1964 to fight the "War on Poverty" and we still have poor. Just giving lazy people $1,000 a month from working peoples taxes isn't going to produce anything except more lazy people. Socialism is being pushed hard upon the US every year.

A fricken Democrat from New York...why am I not surprised.

Our artificial wars on crime, drugs, and terror are also, socialism. The right wing loves national socialism, not liberal socialism. Guess which one is expressly declared in our supreme law of the land.

The great libertarian economist Milton Friedman believed in a universal basic income, though he called it a "negative income tax".

Friedman believed all other forms of welfare should be abolished and replaced with his negative income tax.

I cannot tell if Yang is advocating the abolishment of all other welfare in exchange for his UBI. Do you know?

A fricken Democrat from New York...
Like Donald Trump.

I get lots of deductions and exemptions and credits from the US government when I do my taxes. The government taxes everyone else at a higher rate so that I might receive these deductions and exemptions and credits.

I am therefore stealing that money from you. You have to pay more taxes so I can pay less. And the higher my income has gotten, the more I have taken from you.

Thank you!

equal protection of the law regarding the concept of employment at will, for unemployment compensation purposes, is more cost effective.

no one questions the concept of full employment of resources; except the clueless and the Causeless, on the right wing.

I cannot imagine today a conversation on the airwaves such as took place regularly on The Firing Line with Bill Buckley, such as the one with Milton Friedman about the negative income tax.

The rube herd has been so dumbed down, their heads would fall off trying to grasp the principles bandied about on that program.

Especially since there are no sound effects, flashy graphics, doom music, or phlegm-spewing blowhards to lead them about by their nose rings.

Think about this
Unwed mother of two
$1,500 per month Section 8 housing voucher. She pays 200
$600 per month food stamps
$1500 per month unemployment/welfare check
$3,600 per month in assistance, or $43,200 annually to stay home, watch the kids or go out and get a job? The motivation to do that has been financially removed and societal shaming of all these freebies is non existent(because that would mostly be racist)
