Speaker of the House gives history lesson to reporter.

Hahaha, what is your creators name? Btw the DOI is why and how they justified the separation from the UK. The Constitution is how our government is set up. The only mention of "The Lord" is as a placeholder in time.
The entire subject is based upon not having an OFFICIAL religion.
The separation court ruling was based upon a letter of a founding father about the topic that was taken out of context. Meanwhile a truck load of other letters from founding fathers clearly state our nation are and must be populated by a religious Judeo Christian people if it is to succeed.

There goes the lie that the democrats are not the party of the KKK

Conservative Southerners and former slaveholders were the ones who formed the original KKK as an insurgent group to fight the Northern Occupation and to reverse the Reconstruction laws placed on the south after the occupying federal troops finally left the south. It also served to keep the recently freed slaves in their place as well. After the former white power structure regain control of their states , the KKK became the law biding citizen of the south that gave us Jim Crow. The next iteration of the KKK was more political, and at its height had members of both parties who were both overtly racist. The conservatives of the South are firmly in the grips of Benedict Donald's Neo-GOP.

KKK was entirely Democrats. Republican POTUS US Grant waisted much of his time trying to crush the insurgents of the Democratic Party.

Opinions are like assholes........The Constitution is clearly a secular document and clearly sets up a secular government. The people have at various times injected their religion in the government with little fanfare.

The slaveholding conservative South was entirely Democrats too. That all changed starting in 1964, and today the conservatives of the south are mostly all down with the party of Benedict Donald.

Democrats created the KKK, Democrats have always felt blacks are inferior, past and present Democrats.

Democrats are so racist they openly state blacks are the only race lacking the intelligence to obtain an ID.

So have the Republicans as shown by the one of their founders. Lincoln's own words.

"I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races—that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermingling with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which will ever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together, there must be the position of superior. I am as much as any other man in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race."

Speaking of taking out of context!

Lincoln knew Democrats were racists and was looking for solutions. One legitimate solution was to offer blacks a free way out away from the racist Democrats.

Democrats who later murdered him for freeing blacks.

Nope. It was the common belief taught to most all white folk.

That is evidenced by the way they were treated when they tried to move away from the South.

Most of the defeated South didn't appreciate or celebrate Booths' assassination.

The Speaker doesn't know his history.

The post-Revolutionary period was a time when America was getting the church out of government.

At the time of the American Revolution most colonies still mandated religious tests to vote or hold office, as well as religious taxes. Prior to the outbreak of the Revolution ten colonies had an established religion that was supported by taxes (only Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, and Delaware did not). Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Caroline, Georgia, New Jersey and New York had established the Church of England (which become the Episcopal Church after the Revolution). Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire established the Congregational Church. Physical persecution of religious dissenters had ended by 1776 and was replaced with a movement towards religious freedom and tolerance. The newly independent states crafted new constitutions, and these constitutions varied from state to state and region to region.

The article continues and lists actions by states to free themselves from religious constraints. Thomas Jefferson's separation of church and state wasn't one-sided as the Speaker would have us believe. Here is how the man himself expressed man's freedom from religion:

Be it enacted by the General Assembly, that no man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship, place, or ministry whatsoever, nor shall be enforced, restrained, molested, or burthened in his body or goods, nor shall otherwise suffer on account of his religious opinions or belief; but that all men shall be free to profess, and by argument to maintain, their opinion in matters of religion, and that the same shall in no wise diminish, enlarge, or affect their civil capacities.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Mr. Speaker.

More lies.
White Christians were the catalyst to ending slavery, and the Democrats cheered at the news of Lincoln’s murder.
