The civil war was not about freeing blacks. It was about taking the southern plantations' free labor away so that the northern merchants could compete. They didn't give a rats ass about the black people themselves. Ok....Lincoln did....he was an actual humanitarian and the abolitionists....but the rest of the government?

Right or wrong? Civil war was started over trade competition for foreign commodities contracts. The southern states didn't want to have to get the federal government's permission to carry on trade with Europe. This happened at the same time the northern merchants were bitching about the Free Labor being enjoyed by the southern suppliers.
