Ted Cruz: An Atheist 'Isn't Fit To Be' President

The Constitution bars a religious test. An individual citizen is free to use whatever religious test they want and there is nothing to stop them.

The founding fathers gave us a secular "Godless" Constitution. There is no religious test to be president.

You're right, there is no religious test except the voters. And if you notice the way they dated the Constitution, it was hardly "Godless".

Done in Convention by the Unanimous Consent of the States present the Seventeenth Day of September in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven.......

By dating as such they recognized OUR LORD, did they not?
No one made them use that term.

You poor dumbass.

It has often been seen on the Internet that to find God in the Constitution, all one has to do is read it, and see how often the Framers used the words "God," or "Creator," "Jesus," or "Lord." Except for one notable instance, however, none of these words ever appears in the Constitution, neither the original nor in any of the Amendments. The notable exception is found in the Signatory section, where the date is written thusly: "Seventeenth Day of September in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven". The use of the word "Lord" here is not a religious reference, however. This was a common way of expressing the date, in both religious and secular contexts. This lack of any these words does not mean that the Framers were not spiritual people, any more than the use of the word Lord means that they were. What this lack of these words is expositive of is not a love for or disdain for religion, but the feeling that the new government should not involve itself in matters of religion. In fact, the original Constitution bars any religious test to hold any federal office in the United States. For more information, see the Religion Topic Page.

Yep, that might be how a secular relativist might see it, but not real people. The vast majority of Americans think you losers are full of shit. Ya know what, they're right.

Give the choice between Cruz stance on excluding atheists from the presidency and Carson's stance on excluding Muslims, I have to go with Uncle Ben.

You have to claim you're a Christian to be the President of the United States. At least that's true today

For Republicans you have to claim to be a devout Christian and carry a bible at all times
You don't have to actually read it though

Not only that, but a president should begin every day with prayer.

Presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said Friday that he believes anyone who wants to be president must fear God and pray daily.

Speaking at the National Religious Liberties Conference in Iowa, Cruz joined other GOP presidential candidates for a discussion about the persecution of Christians in the U.S. and around the world. After some very extreme, very weird comments about homosexuality, right-wing pastor Kevin Swanson introduced Cruz to the stage to ask him how important it was for candidates to submit to Jesus Christ as "the king of the President of the United States."

"Any president who doesn't begin every day on his knees isn't fit to be commander-in-chief of this country," responded Cruz.

Cruz didn't say who "any president" should pray to. After all, there are thousands of so-called Gods. I look forward to the day when an honorable Atheist does become president. Religion does not predate morality.

Cruz wants to make sure that Jesus Camp knows he's out there just in case Ben Carson falters.

Hey,If I was an atheist running for president on the GOP ticket, I'll toss atheism in the garbage to win the religious idiot/bigot vote too!!

Easy to get a Christian to trust you..All you have to do is say you are a christian--an easy lie!

This is how Cruz thinks a president must start his day:

It is just his opinion. I am sure there are atheists that think Christians shouldn't be President..
I think anyone can be President as long as they respect our Constitution.
Anyone remember that thing?

If God is real, then no doubt an atheist president would be a horrific outcome for any nation.

Too bad, the highly smug and intellectual community cannot humble themselves enough to bow down before their God instead of their egos. Maybe then this nation might revert back to its more humble and moral self and receive a blessing instead of this onslaught of curses and misery. Did anyone see how horrible it is in Chicago because of the gang violence where parents and children live in fear? Great nation we got going here.

PS --- the gravity of politics is to the gravity of spiritual matters --- is tantamount to what the importance of playing video games well is to the importance of raising a child properly.

I'm an atheist and I have no problems with a Christian as President

However, a fundamentalist Christioan demonstrates serious problems with logic and their ability to reason and I would not vote for them

And after 7 years of validation, neither should a Muslim.

So according to Cruz every female porn star is fit to be president.

So I see the Regressive Lefties are still pretending Cruz is trying to make this a constitutional issue.

Too funny.

Guess he hasn't read our Constitution...

Both you dummies, Cruz didn't say it was unconstitutional for an atheist to run try to debate your point without dishonesty.

He did say an atheist is unfit to be Commander-in-Chief. Given that our military does in fact have laws and regulations about fitness and unfitness for duty,

Cruz, whether intentionally or not, is putting some very serious code into his rhetoric.
