The USPS by law has to deliver everywhere. UPS and Fed Ex do not. If a route isn't profitable then they aren't going to provide service there. The USPS has no choice. It's one of the reasons why their business model is more expensive than UPS and Fed Ex!

yes, its cheaper for the shipper. no one has ever said otherwise. But its not cheaper to operate. If it was not propped up by the federal govt (our tax payments) it would fail.

It would fail because they charge too little. They could charge more to break even and their rates would still be cheaper than UPS and FedEx.
