The move comes after the Dow Jones Industrial Average ended its historic 11-year bull market run by closing in bear-market territory. A bear market marks a 20% decline from all-time highs.


As of 5 a.m. ET Thursday, Dow futures implied a loss of more than 1,100 points at the open. S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures were also deeply in the red.

In his address, Trump announced travel from Europe will be suspended for 30 days as part of the government’s response to the coronavirus outbreak. Trump also said the administration would provide financial relief for workers who are ill, caring for others due to the virus or are quarantined.

Federal health officials' coronavirus meetings should be treated as classified, according to a White House order first reported by Reuters.

As a result, relevant health experts who lack the necessary security clearances have been kept out of meetings since January. This is a serious, idiotic act of self-sabotage on the part of the Trump administration. It will not only hamper transparency—it will compromise the efficacy of the government's coronavirus prevention strategizing.

Four Trump officials told Reuters that dozens of coronavirus meetings have been held in a high-security room at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and that "staffers without security clearances, including government experts, were excluded from the interagency meetings, which included video conference calls."

As a result, "some very critical people who did not have security clearances" were kept out of the meetings.

I'll grant you, Trump never seems comfortable reading prepared script that are not his own words. At one point, he appeared to suppress a sneeze or a cough. Considering the balm and fluidity of his ad hoc speeches at rallies, I have to conclude that he doesn't feel reading prepared words written by others as being genuine, sincere or honest, but a necessary evil of the job forced upon him. His teleprompter announcements where he must read, rehearse and parse every carefully PC word are dreadful. It's just not him.
