The American Left should stop and smell the roses

Irrelevant since everything you post not only is the Democratic position but justified with their talking points including their ridiculous demagoguery and caricatures of Republicans and views of their own selfless sainthood. It speaks for itself.

And yes, you did mention that paying you what you think you are worth is the responsibility of other people, not you. You're a typical greedy liberal who wants other people's money, there is no insight in that.

um, no, I just don't think that the ones who decide what people get paid make decisions for the right reasons.

Which is why you need organized labor, you need transparency in business, and you need a bunch of other stuff the "No Dressage Horse Left Behind" crowd is against.

Now, yeah, I'll admit, I want to see guns controlled, abortions legal and gays get married. But that is mostly because the stupid people who keep voting against their own and my economic interests keep doing so because they care about that "God, Guns and Gays" shit.

Sooner we crush their issues into the fucking dirt, the sooner we can get on to the real discussion- wealth inequality.

Got it, you know you're a useless loser, who can't make it on your own, so you'll take the wage scale.

What a great country, what a waste for a village idiot it is to be here. The thread is right, you should appreciate what you have, not be jealous and greedy for more.

The American Left should stop and smell the roses

As I read the various PC-related threads and posts here, I can't help but wonder why the PC Police continues with all the anger and name-calling and personal insults.

Holy crap folks, you've won. Have fun with it.

What? This country is an abysmal failure. Life is unlivable here. Do you not realize that gay couples cannot go everywhere government and get validation for their relationship? It's inhumane. People have to pay for their own healthcare. And they may have to buy their own condoms. Are you freaking kidding me? They have to pay for their own condoms? That's just insane. You can be walking down the street and hear ... Christians ... saying Christian things. You might even hear them pray. OM Fing G. The list of atrocities we are subject to is just endless.

I don't know what you're talking about. This country is the most hateful, mean spirited in the history of man. No one ever had to live in these conditions.

Hey kaz, I want to tell you a story.

Today, I went to Sam's Club. I know, a liberal in Sam's Club??? I should have melted as soon as I entered with all the unabashed consumerism around me. But that's not the point. The point is I walked into the store, showed my card, and walked a few feet and there on my right side was a movie playing with Jesus being sacrificed on the cross. Now this was I think called the "Son of God" which is one of the many Christian themed movies released this year.

Point is, no one is punishing Christians in this country. Not even close.

the right does the same thing in their own way.....there are righties here who call every Hispanic here a criminal, even if they have been born and raised here.....there are some who call all Federal workers "leeches" and lazy workers and then claim they did not mean that, but yet they said it....poor people are all bums....it goes both ways Mac....

No behavior is exclusive to one "side", that's for sure.

But the Left does far more than name calling and accusations. They make it their responsibility to issue "consequences" - and this is not my word, it is theirs. They choose to punish, they do not have to do so.

We're obviously not going to agree, but I see a significant distinction. And I think what bothers me the most is the fact that, you wouldn't know it by looking at me, but there's a lot of old hippie in me, and I hate to see how the American Left has become the antithesis of what it used to be. And again, to quote Democrat and hottie Kirsten Powers:

How ironic that the persecutors this time around are the so-called intellectuals. They claim to be liberal while behaving as anything but. The touchstone of liberalism is tolerance of differing ideas. Yet this mob exists to enforce conformity of thought and to delegitimize any dissent from its sanctioned worldview. Intolerance is its calling card.

.

Obviously you don't quite understand what tolerance is.

Tolerance is accepting others for who they are. Being intolerant means the exact opposite of that.

So remember the Golden rule? "Treat others the way you want to be treated." So if you want to be intolerant to others, others will be intolerant to you. Simple as that.

if not, i'd suggest you've gone about this wrong.

Wrong? Meh. I always offer my little opinions without personal insults and name-calling. That puts me in the minority here, so I'm usually comfortable with my approach.

.

i hope you read this Jilly Jelly.., this man is a gentleman.., i am NOT..., so if you want "dirty talk", some pretty nasty names, i am well versed, tutored by some of the U.S. Navys' old salts i know all the words and many you have never heard (remember, i was a sailor that traveled to many foreign lands, over many years) ....., ooooh !! i am sorry , i see that was not your intent, so forget the above..,

please,

so,

stop...,

and....,

smell the roses

OP- Idiocy. That's idiotic media, right and left, , jumping on people for stupid statements toavoid actual journalism. The point is that Pubs have obstructed everything for 5 years and Reaganist policies and tax rates are still wrecking the nonrich and the country.

I don't care enough about them as people to want to "change" their minds. HOnestly, if they are completely fucking miserable watching two dudes kiss on TV, I'm really kind of good with that.

Well, we're different people, and I may well be Pollyanna. But we are what we are.

I think there are usually reasons for behavior, and sometimes a reason may be a lack of information, or bad information. No doubt the way they were raised can play a part. Or maybe that person has just never had someone show them the basic human respect of listening to them. Everyone deserves to be heard, and sometimes just giving someone the respect of listening to them opens their mind a bit.

.

"opens their mind a bit"
WoW ! that's a real tuffy (sic) i have tried that approach with some low infoliberwhackos in Colorado many years ago, their minds opened wide, i peered in, in this great expanse of a void i did notice some sort of jumbled mess at the very bottom, smelling like 4 day old road kill skunk with temps over 100 deg., hard to describe other than utter and total chaos ! a very disgusting place, i never want to go there again ! :lmao:

And you don't see that your rule works both ways?

When someone says something that I don't like, the thought of "punishing" them or issuing "consequences" to them doesn't even occur to me.

You clearly don't see that.

No doubt, there are people with whom a reasonable person just can't reason.

That's a price we pay for living in a free society.

I'll take that over a society in which people are afraid to say what they're thinking.

Not even close.

.

Yes, I really appreciate my underwater mortgage because a few rich assholes decided to turn the housing market into the Crazy Clown Casino.

I really appreciate working for a company for six years and then having my medical insurance cut out from underneath me while I was recovering from multiple surgeries.

I massively appreciate the tax increasing working people got stuck with because we had to cut rich people's taxes and give them bailouts when they wrecked the economy.

And I really like it that we have a bunch of tools who still vote REpublican because, Gosh darn it, the Democrats might let them queers get married.

PC has not stopped me and what I want to say, I still cuss in church...

And no one has tried to get you fired, or forced you to conduct a business transaction, or singled you out for public shame?

Excellent! Perhaps there is still hope for us!

.

and when has this happened to you?

Frankly, who has been "fired' who wasn't a racist or homophobic asshole?

Again, here you are complaining that the market forces are taking care of the homophobes or the racists, when normally, when the market forces are fucking over the working class, you are oooooh, so fine with that.

I realize you're not into the whole "business" "economics" thing -- that's only for mean, greedy rich white people who cheated other people and didn't earn that and didn't build that and roads and bridges 'n stuff -- but here goes:

Market forces are choices people make. Choices create market forces. And you support people when they choose to issue consequences when they see or hear something that "offends" them. They don't have to, they choose to.

So yes, in that way, "market forces" (and you've already admitted that you don't care about free markets, so this is all pretty ironic) are intimidating people into not saying what they're thinking for fear of retribution. You're for that, I am not.

I know this will sound crazy, but there was a time when we old hippies felt lucky to live in a country that allowed us to be free with our expression, to tolerate others, to engage those with whom we disagreed in an effort to change their hearts and minds. All without issuing "consequences". See, "consequences" were something The Man issued. Today, the only people who allowed to say what they're thinking are those on your end of the political spectrum. Moderates and independents and conservatives had just better shut the fuck up OR ELSE.

Of course, that was before we were discussing whether the Constitution was written by a bunch of rich white slave owners, and how America needed to be fundamentally changed. So I realize I'm being a little nostalgic for the days of freedom of expression without "consequences".

Crazy, huh?

Yes. Exactly. I want that stupid homophobe living in fear that when he tells a fag joke, someone is going to run down to human resources and report his ass and he'll have to clean out his desk.

Yes, it's crazy to think you can win over people who are motivated by irrational hate to the point where they vote against their own economic interests.

Which is exactly what the homophobes did in 2004. "Hey, America, I know Bush was a total fuck-up, but he'll keep the fags from getting married!"

And they totally gave this guy what he didn't earn in 2000- an electoral majority.

Guess what. He wrecked the economy, gutted the middle class, expended trillions in useless wars to enrich Dick Cheney (psst. Psst. Don't tell anyone his daughter is gay!) and totally never got around to banning gay marriage.

And now that gay marriage laws are falling across the country, the homophobes are now clinging to the 'Hey, can I refuse to bake a cake or tell fag jokes in the office? Please? Please?"

So, no, I'm not feeling particularly magnanimous towards the homophobes and letting them have some corner where they can still enjoy their bigotries. Somewhere between my underwater mortgage and having to work three jobs to pay down my medical debt, I've really lost any ability to sympathize with these people.

Yes, Comrade, it's the Bourgeois oppressing the Proletariat. In the end, if you get your way, you will go the route of all the communist tools before you, into bondage. Because you wouldn't appreciate what you have. Stop and smell the roses, this is way, way better than what you are fighting for.

I'd be happy to go back to what we had under that Commie Eisenhower.

Strong unions, full employment, good pensions.

and governmetn services that worked because the rich paid their fair share.
