The FACTS on Food Stamps

There is certain places, but you have to meet a certain criteria. You have to be elderly, homeless, or disabled.

here in CA.... there are no "criteria" You can use EBT cards to purchase fast food and starbucks coffee. Lots of them have all put up "we now accept EBT" up in the doors.

I can't confirm or deny this, but I heard in Massachussets you can just withdraw the money off your EBT card, like a debit card? I think someone posted something about this a while back.

now you can confirm it hg..... it can be used for fast food junk.

Can't you see they are taking more than they need now?

Nope, sure can't. But then I believe little of what I hear and almost nothing that I read so there ya go. In my business experience I depended on customers having discretionary income. That no longer exists for a growing portion of our citizens.....I don't hate them for losing their jobs and giving up after years of interviews that went nowhere. Either we bring the jobs that were off-shored back or we risk a permanent under-class of those on government programs we can no longer afford. And never believe the gated communities won't be overrun if this thing falls apart.....EBT is a safety net as much for us as those who are going without.

Discretionary income is from being able to market one's skills and education level to compete these days in an international global economy.
High school diploma or college diploma in Greek Mythology does not work anymore in a high tech economy.
My son is an IT recruiter and he says there are over 1 million vacancies NOW.
Same with HVAC, plumbing, car repair, marine mechanics, oil rig jobs and other blue collar jobs that pay good money.
Here in Georgia they start HVAC kids out at $700 a week and within a year or so you get 45% commission on service call labor, they make about $65K a year.
Plumbers?, man alive they make good money here.
Same with auto mechanics.
IT or chemical engineering or anything tech?
PLenty of jobs but they line up still to take the easy way out in college with NO or one math course the entire 4 years.
Real world, we do not live 30 years ago when folks with a high school education made middle income wages putting something together that now a Mexican man with a 5th grade education can do the same thing.
The horse and buggy days are over and we need to quit supporting that mentality.

I believe I already addressed the "lobster dinner" dodge you used, and as for "junk food", maybe if fruits and vegetables were affordable like they used to be, there'd be less fattening (ie cheap) food consumed. You've lost touch with how the "new poor" got that way....maybe you're involved in a business venture that uses slave labor, or maybe you just like to believe you're "special" and have no use for the less fortunate. I don't know or care frankly. I find myself in a postition of defending a government program I wish we didn't need because some of you elitists are throwing around charges about corruption I don't believe.

if you can purchase lobster....then its not off the menu now is it.

You're kidding right? Once again for the memory-impaired, you'll find anybody buying a lobster using EBT at a grocery store is almost always somebody who's found a new job, or a new husband, or a stash of pirate gold, ie is no longer eligible for benefits and simply burning out their remaining total to celebrate. Trying to turn that trickle into a gully-washer is simply dishonest. Do you own this site by any chance? :eusa_angel:

can you prove that? if not what you claim is only your opinion and speculation. I however have linked to it happening.

Most of the IT vacancies are for entry level jobs or require one to move to a socialist city.

What unmitigated horse crap, lol.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Yes, people do use their foodstamps to buy lobster, and ribeye steak, and soda pop, and high end deli items, and fountain sodas at 7-11, and candy.

Because they are foolish, but also because they receive enough in foodstamps that they can figure those items into their budget.

Meanwhile, I've forgotten what steak tastes like.

We pay $20 a hour plus mileage in my industry with folks that can get licensed. If they work out then they can make $25 if they are willing to work nights and weekends.
Most of the folks we see are UNWILLING to work nights and weekends, want an inside job with BENEFITS, God I hate that word. Go and find YOUR OWN DAMN BENEFITS.
That mentality has us where we are in America. Everyone expects 2 weeks vacation, sick days, double time, full benefits, retirement or 401K, break time, long lunches, 20 holidays a year paid and on and on.
Very few have a work ethic except that Mexican man and other immigrants.
Americans are fat, lazy and want something for nothing. For years they got it.
The party is over. Do not make enough in your first job then GET A 2ND JOB.
Work weekends.
No cry babies.

Nope, most of them are for knowing how to run the software and that takes many certifications. My other son does IT work and is getting a few of the certifications now.

Shut the fuck up.

:Lmao: Sorry, didn't mean to intrude on your woman hunting, best of luck there.

Hey hairlip....maybe I didn't make myself clear the first time....SHUT THE FUCK UP. Koshergirl doesn't need your sorry ass standing up for her....she's more than capable of answering my questions about her situation.

Too bad I don't listen to you. I'm sure she is more than capable in answering you. I think a six year old is more than capable in answering you.

Really? I find decent steaks on sale for five bucks a pound on a regular basis. Marinate over night throw on the grill ... I don't buy the 15buck a pound stuff just out of principle, unless it's a special occasion. I'd rather go out in the back yard and butcher some fresh food than pay someone to do it for me for $15 a pound.

Not worth a nano-second of my time to "link" it.....like I've already explained I SOLD merchant service packages that included EBT if necessary. You'll see I post from a perspective I've gained over the years of being book-smart and street-smart and my opinions change slowly if a belief I've had is no longer true.

Further, I doubt very much if the EBT rules are different in Kalifornia than they are anyplace else. I just spoke to an old friend in Arizona state government and she tells me the benefits here are $156-$166 a month for a single person with little or no income past basic rent and utilities. Any amount earned over that amount must be reported, and that total is deducted from the next month's EBT amount. Arizona also is zip-code specific about even considering benefits....in other words if you like in the Arcadia neighborhoods in Phoenix like I do, or North Scottsdale, or Paradise Valley, or Gold Canyon etc, don't bother applying....they'll tell you to sell your second car or jewelry or whatever and buy your own damn food. It's a FEDERAL program....you can't get CASH with your card or buy restricted items with it....the merchant doesn't dare risk his credit card business by screwing around with some dope trying to game him.

Let's put it another way. 1 out of 6 people face hunger. America is not as wealthy as people would like to believe.

can you buy lobster with snap?

Yes, but you would have to be a complete idiot. It's pretty hard to ignore a basic need like hunger. Recipients learn quickly to play it smart.

SNAP cards can be traded for narcotics, and all kinds of unhealthy foods can be bought with them.

Let's save the children, and all the other poor from themselves.

Time to go back to what worked, and that was commodities. The grocery stores can even provide real food---but it can't be anything fancy. There needs to be a large supply for each person of: rice, beans, flour, cheese, poweder milk and fruit drinks, potatoes, cereal, canned meat and what ever fresh produce that can be obtained without too much cost.

There is concept alien to liberal democrats like yourself. It is called incentive. With all the welfare, Medicaide and SNAP benefits, life is really good for the lazy poor. Why apply yourself when you are bathed in luxury?

Why in the world would a teenage welfare rat wannabe stay in school, get a job, wait to get married and then have a family she can support on her own? She already knows she can get something like $40,000 a year just by spreading her legs and having a welfare child. Capitalism isn't worth it. Socialism works until the freeloaders drain all the resources from the treasury.

You finding an anecdotal account of a person buying a lobster with an EBT card isn't a "fact" by any stretch of the imagination....in fact it reeks of being an attack on a class of people you despise for being poor either from their own doing or that of an employer who shipped their job off to China. You won't answer my question as to whether you are profiting from an outsourced business. If that's the case, then you should admit it so your opinion on this subject can be seen in context. The rest of this thread has so few "facts" in it it's hilarious...rumors and exaggerations and anger from those who resent their taxes being used in such a manner. Those I agree with. The class of people who've sold out the working men and women in this country, I despise.

Your friend is misinformed, and so are you.

Income does not have to be reported unless it is over the 130 percent fpl level...and if the foodstamp recipient is receiving fs and is between 130-185 percent of the fpl already, then they don't have to report income at ALL until they recert or submit their interim change report at the 6 month mark.

A single person household that brings in 650 a month and pays a couple hundred in rent will receive $200, which is the maximum allotment for a single person.

Cash from TANF comes on the same ebt card that FS come on, so yes, you can use your ebt card for cash.

You aren't very street smart, or you would know these things.

She's also very, very wrong about the zip code thing. The food stamp program does NOT count assets. You can have a million in the bank, and if your monthly income is less than 185 percent of the federal poverty level, then you are cat el and nobody cares about that bank account. The only program that gives a shit about assets and resources are the medical programs...and only for adults.

The feds will squash offices, states and workers hard if they EVER turn away applicants based on zip code. Workers are mandated to never reject an application, and never to tell anyone not to apply. It is a federal mandate that every request for benefits is properly processed..and that means you take the application and you do not turn people away, except in the course of eligibility determination. I.e., you take the app, you go over the eligibility, and THEN you may deny..but even the denials include the language that applicants may apply again at any time.

Support staff can get in a lot of trouble if there is a fed "secret shopper" in the lobby, and they tell them not to bother applying. Trouble in the benefits business means that states and offices lose money from the feds for not meeting the fed standards. And that is a big deal.
