The federal Housing and Urban Development agency published its 2017 report on homelessness which found California not only has the largest homeless population in the country, the population grew from 2016. California had 134,278 homeless in 2017, of which 91,642 were unsheltered—a 13.7% increase from 2016.

The HUD report found the number of homeless declined in 30 states during the same time period between 2016 and 2017, with the largest decreases in Georgia (2,735 fewer people), Massachusetts (2,043 fewer people), and Florida (1,369 fewer people). The largest percentage decreases were in South Carolina (23%), Georgia (21%), and Louisiana (17%).

The number of homeless increased in 20 states between 2016 and 2017, with the largest increases in California (16,136 people), New York (3,151 people), and Oregon (715 people). The largest percentage increases were in North Dakota (18%), California (14%), New Mexico (10%), and Vermont (10%).

As I wrote in Newton thread, well I will write it here and Homeless issue has been going on for decades and it is a problem for both political parties and it seem only partisans care about it when they can use it as a damn political football!

FYI: New Mexico is a Republican held State, so why has the governor of that State allow her Citizens to live like that?

The last time I went to California was in 2005 expecting to see it as I did in 1963. California has fallen into disrepair and main street America did not do that.

This thread was to point out problems in California and were well laid out using left leaning articles to back them up. It was in response to the circle jerk of the children In detention by border security. Many threads on how heartless we are and the usual rhetoric. In those threads they say their should be family detention centers..................Even though they shot down funding for additional bed spaces and more detention facilities.

Now they want family centers for the illegals..........while awaiting a hearing......while their own people are living in tents...........and in that aspect they have made it too expensive for lower end jobs to live on.......in housing costs....taxes..........and regulations making everything they have cost more. Which Hurts the poor more than anyone else. Many of the homeless work..............they just can't afford a place to leave and this is why so many people are leaving California........as the businesses leave also.............

Yet California population is stable........because they are being replaced by immigrants from South of the border.

It is hypocrisy to complain about the border situation when.

They reject funding for more beds.
