I have watched the left gradually change over the years from applying liberalism as it's guiding principle to being dominated by identity politics and multiculturalism. Heck, Hillary's coronation was a veritable triumph of one over the other. Where liberalism once acted to unite as it advanced the human condition for all, equally, identity politics only acts to divide as rights are not advanced for the individual, but only for the sub group. Liberalism is a political philosophy that acts to extend the same rights to all people, whereas multiculturalism acts to preserve separate rights dependent upon the group to which one is attached.

If people would think (which most don't) they would realize the word conserve in conservatism has to do with the preservation of cultural mores, social structures, and traditional systems of interactions. Taken as such, multiculturalism is actually an extremely CONSERVATIVE political philosophy, as it acts to preserve the distinctness of cultures no matter their intrinsic social values. Preserving the social values of primitive patriarchies therefore acts AGAINST liberalism.

We live in a liberal, western society. Placing absolutely no expectation that immigrants adapt out liberal ways is the surest path to losing them
