Actually, the Republicans tried it that way. Mitt Romney was a real boy scout. Although he fought tooth and nail against Uncle Newtie in the 2012 primaries, the Dems called him everything but a child of God in the general election. Tax Evader, Dog Abuser, prep school bully, Literally Hitler.
And the charges stuck.
Their plan is a failure, unless George Conway et al actually just want sky high taxes and the New Green Deal.
