The Occupy Wall Street Movement is WORKING!!!

It's not trickling down now! Besides, I never said anything about taxes, I said pay the mw workers more and they will spend it, there will be an influx of money into our economy making our economy BETTER.

They won't be spending shit because so many fewer of them will have jobs. But that's ok, people like you will just urge the government to give them everyone else's money anyway. How stimulating!

The last few times the mw was raised there were no net loss of jobs.

They work for it, they EARN it.

Again, put the money in the hands of those who spend it and watch our economy get better overnight.

When the mw has been raised...it was 50 cents or a dollar. This isn't the kind of increase your talking about. Your talking about a serious wage increase.

Not with our government, and not with our economy. Taxing more money from the rich will only feed the pockets of our government, it certainly won't trickle down.

Giving tax breaks to the wealthy certainly hasn't helped, in fact it has made things worse and you think giving more tax breaks to the wealthy will fix it??????

Pay higher MW and the cost for the product will rise. The bottom line for any business is to make a profit, you can't keep the product at the same price while giving higher wages...it cuts in to the profit.

PS...I never said anything about more tax breaks for the wealthy. I don't know where that came from.

Same place you got the idea I wanted to tax the rich more.

A rising tide raises all boats. Put the money in the hands of those who spend it and that's what will happen. Our economy was better when the mw had the highest spending power in history and the top tax rate was 70%. We had a strong middle class and a strong economy. Now we are in a great depression...the rich are paying the lowes taxes than since the income tax was started and the mw has the lowest spending power in history and you don't see a correlation to this great depression????

You're not following the recession, are you? Kick up the min wage and a bunch of people will get laid off, deficits will go up, taxes will go up, and the economy will sputter further into recession.

What's funny is even if you were right, they'd get a raise and prices would go up and they'd have what they can buy now. I mean duh. But unfortunately that best case scenario isn't what would happen, layoffs would.

The minimum wage should be eliminated, that would have a huge positive impact on the economy.

Yeah, people would make even less than they did before...they'd be spending less, the economy would lose money, we'd lose jobs and things would go down hill even faster than they are.....good thinking!

Put the money in the hands of those who spend it, and watch the economy get back on track overnight.

Sure it will. Into the pockets of the government created moocher class created by the Great Society to buy votes and ensconce larger gubmint.

Libspeak translation: Take money out of the hands of those who earn it, and watch how many votes demagoguery can buy for short term political gain and long term economic disaster.

Nice try, but I'm not a lib

I hate to be the one to break it to ya, but yeah, you are.

On most things I agree with Sheila, she isn't a lib. I know where she's coming from and why she has this opinion. I just disagree with her on this issue.

Back in the day there wasn't 47% not paying any taxes, and there wasn't an Earned Income Credit, either.
Back in the day the poor were actually poor. Today a good percentage of the poor have more than one TV, Xboxes, cell phones, more than one car, own homes. See where I'm going with this?

Ollie,

Think about it. Do you believe it's fair that a person working as hard as they can on minimum wage can't afford to put a roof over their head without help from someone else? Do you think the Walmart family deserves all their money while their employees are being subsidized by our tax dollars?

There is something drastically wrong in our country today. OWS may not be representing you but they are trying to effect a change for the better in our country. Our economy is bad right now due in no small part to the huge income gap. The gilded age led to the great depression and we had that again and are now again in a great depression, though some people don't realize it and our government refuses to admit it.

Take heart, my friends are right, as the weather gets colder, they will simply go away and our government will have won and the rich will continue to have their protection. Only if our government cracks down on them will their be a revolution, our government knows better.

Sadly, our country will continue on it's downward spiral due in no small part to apathetic Americans.

Is it fair to take money away from someone simply because someone thinks they have too much? We cannot help the poor by making the rich poor.

"No country can long survive with the majority of it's wealth in the hands of a few."

Actually, it has for the whole time and before, the founding of our nation.

The problem is not the share as much as the mobility between the classes

The crony capitalism we have which is promoted by both parties
only guarantees that we stay and become more stratified as a society.

The type of gov't we have
is the problem - not the solution.

Read a history book. Yeah, it was like this in the gilded age, which led to the great depression. Then a whole bunch of government work programs, and WWII and suddenly, we had the biggest middleclass in history, in the world even. Now we are back to the gilded age and the corresponding great depression.

Indeed

You should take your own advice
:eusa_angel:

Most FDR programs did very little to get us out of the depression.
Just like Papa Obama's Pork bill did little for our economy
but it did help his friends

Speaking of gov't programs to save us....

Papa Obama: 433 Million No-Bid Contract for friends

Senior officials have taken unusual steps to secure the contract f

When Siga complained that contracting specialists at the Department of Health and Human Services were resisting the company's financial demands, senior officials replaced the government's lead negotiator for the deal, interviews and documents show.

When Siga was in danger of losing its grip on the contract a year ago, the officials blocked other firms from competing.

I think we agree that the entire tax system is broken and needs reworked from the lowest valley to the highest mountain top. But still one of the problems in this country is the guy pushing a broom at a car factory making $24 an hour. And the guy who cleans the toilets in a Post office getting $22......Are they really earning that, or are they over paid? And yes I know both those people. My bet is there are thousands of examples of it. Even more so in the Government.......... I do believe in paying what the job is worth.....

Good deal. A firm beliver in the free market. And if a person doesn't want to be paid a wage the market is willing to pay/ They are entitled to educate themselves and/or move on and up the ladder instead of whining to the gubmint.

The myth that FDR's New Deal ended the Great Depression has by now been widely debunked, as has the notion that wartime spending did the trick.

Yeah, I'm a heartless ass. I'm so heartless I have taken in no less than 3 homeless young men, one of them is still with us. I am so heartless I give up my Mon afternoons to hand out free lunches to the homeless, and yes, I help pay for them. I am so heartless I have given of my time, my money and my possessions to make the lives of those less fortunate than me a little better. What have you done?
I own two businesses and pay roughly 30 people for working. One is a design biz I run, the other is a restaurant my wife runs. I do her back office work.

The restaurant starts people at minimum wage. We give them little chance to improve if they suck because we can't pay $7.25 an hour for someone if they aren't pulling their weight, it's a high hour business.

btw, I know people living in tent cities that are working. They are not on drugs, they are not alcoholics, they just don't make enough to afford an apartment. I think they should make enough to afford a roof over their heads and that make me heartless?????

No, what makes you heartless is you deny people not worth $7.25 an hour a job.

Let's apply basic logic to this. Say the government passed a law you can't buy a toaster for less then $30. What would happen to toasters that today cost $20? Would the price increase to $30? No, people would buy a better toaster since they have to pay $30 for a toaster. Duh.

You think people are all worth $7.25 an hour? You're not only a heartless ass you're fucking nuts. They aren't, trust me, I know. If I have to pay that, I'm going to find employees who are at least worth it.

Basic logic, the minimum wage is an obviously retarded plan that does not, will not and never did work. All it does is deny employment to the people who need a job the most. Blocking them from getting work through the power of government guns? Damn straight, you're a heartless ass.

So taking money from a business is putting it into the economy? If this Marxist bull shit worked, comrade Obama would have our economy humming now.
