No toleration of criticizing Mr. Trump as a felon is allowed. Is this the ultimate in cancel culture? Gaga order? Is this an attack on Freedom of Speech, disguised as some congressional rule preventing certain types of speech?

What slippery road has the GOP of today gone down in order to shield, or protect Mr. Trump? What kind of behavior is this?

On the House Floor, Republicans Gag Mentions of Trump’s Conviction

During official proceedings of the G.O.P.-controlled chamber, speaking about former President Donald J. Trump’s felony conviction has been forbidden, while disparaging President Biden and Democrats is routine.

The Republicans who now hold the majority have used those rules to impose what is essentially a gag order against talking about Mr. Trump’s hush-money payments to a porn actress or about the fact that he is a felon at all, notwithstanding that those assertions are no longer merely allegations but the basis of a jury’s guilty verdict. Doing so, they have declared, is a violation of House rules.

...

“The chair would remind members to refrain from engaging in personalities toward presumptive nominees for the office of the president,” is now a common phrase heard in the chamber after the mention of the words “Trump” and “felon.”

On one occasion, Republicans barred Representative Jim McGovern, Democrat of Massachusetts, from speaking for the rest of the day and deleted his comments from the Congressional Record after he railed against Mr. Trump and his court cases.

“When they censor any mention of Donald Trump’s criminal convictions, they are essentially trying to ban a fact,” Representative Jamie Raskin of Maryland, the top Democrat on the Oversight Committee, said in an interview. “I am not aware of any precedent where factual statements have been banned in our lifetime.”

They are a bunch of lawyers. Technically there is no felon status until sentencing. Especially true in Trump's case since the verdict might be overturned on a mistrial.

Live by a gag order, die by a gag order. LMAO, hypocrite.

Now all of a sudden you don't like gag orders?...

Live by a gag order, die by a gag order. LMAO, hypocrite.

What?

A legal issue in the courts is now a reason to get Orwellian? Thinking of protecting Mr. Trump by censoring elected officials?

Mr. Trump was temporarily gagged during a criminal trial. Right now, parts of that gag order are moot because the trial is over. Arguments now are about protecting Jury members from recriminations.

How could you support this? Try explaining beyond some cultish cheer.

This is one of those keep threads. Why? The real insanity of how a cult functions will be put forth here by the cult members themselves. With no shame, no reason, no honor, no concern for constitutional principles or rules.

It's going to be all about the cult-of-personality expressing itself, while at the same time shouting "We are not in a cult!" to the outside world.

They are a bunch of lawyers. Technically there is no felon status until sentencing. Especially true in Trump's case since the verdict might be overturned on a mistrial.

That is not true. You people keep missing facts: Mr. Trump is awaiting probationary status and sentencing. Only those having been convicted are in those shoes.

.
"A conviction is an adjudication of a criminal defendant’s guilt; specifically, it is the act or judicial process of finding a criminal defendant guilty of a charged offense."

A verdict being appealed or overturned is an appeal of a convicted person.

According to your inane logic -- a person in prison, appealing a conviction as a felon, is not really a felon, because they are appealing?

EvilCat Breath the usmb nutjob

Thinking of protecting Mr. Trump by censoring elected officials?
How are they any better than any other private citizen's freedom of speech?
Mr. Trump was temporarily gagged during a criminal trial.
Mr. Trump is STILL subject to the gag order in spite of the fact the trial is over and the jury has been released. Trump and his associates are the only ones subject to the "Orwellian" order. BTW, some jurors have made public statements--they don't seem too concerned with recriminations. Try again, cultist.

You people, people like you are clueless about the colonials/early America arguing over protecting speech. It was about protecting what the elected officials could and would say as representatives of the people..

It certainly will expose you and your ilk and the Pandora's box that you so eagerly opened. Good luck.
You are defending shit in the Congress as a way of arguing about the courts?

A judge in a court of law put a gag order on Mr. Trump.

Now a cultish party in the US House has used a rule to prohibit mention of a criminal conviction?

The Democrat Regime is both Orweillian and Stalinist. They must be removed from power in November for the sake of the country.

Gag orders are good you said....

Gag orders in a court case serve a vital function. I'm not sure why you need to conflate the tow. May it be because you need to somehow justify a congressional tactic that stinks to high heaven, that threatens the foundations of the legislative branch of government in the USA?

.

You people, people like you are clueless about the colonials/early America arguing over protecting speech. It was about protecting what the elected officials could and would say as representatives of the people..

Where did you stand during colonial times that you seem to think you can read their minds? You have been thoroughly indoctrinated by the left and you clearly are the clueless among us. Your hypocrisy is all the evidence that is necessary.

You are defending shit in the Congress as a way of arguing about the courts?

When the politicized courts normalize the removal of a basic constitutional freedom, it is hypocritical to criticize the opposition for using the exact same tactics. Cry me a river.
