"The most stirring example of fundamentalism gone awry, involving the suicide of a California man who was under Bible-guided counseling, will be examined in a California Court of Appeals case in 1989. The man's parents have charged that leaders of his church contributed to their son's suicide because they rely too heavily on Scriptures, rather than mental health professionals, to counsel emotionally troubled believers."

That is why it is very important to classify fundamentalist Christianity as a mental illness , then these people can be forced into treatment.

I am far more concerned about progressive fundamentalists.

The mentally ill authoritarian cultists, like guano, who demand that everyone put their faith in politicians and bureaucrats.

1989

Wow, talk about ancient history.

I wonder why the site doesn't give any details of the case.

"will be examined in 1989"? You might want to find better authorities.

The church won BTW and the person who committed suicide was simultaneously receiving professional mental healthcare with his religious counseling and was referred to seek medical help by them Nally v. Grace Community Church (1988) 47 Cal. 3d 278 [253 Cal. Rptr. 97, 763 P.2d 948] :: Volume 47 :: Cal. 3d :: California Case Law :: US Case Law :: US Law :: Justia

So you're bringing up a 1989 case while completely neglecting to mention that the family lost the law suit because she was receiving mental health treatment?

This is what most people would call lying by omission. The fact that you can lie so easily should lead us to question your mental health. After all, why are you so scared that people make different choices than you do?
