The reality of poverty in America: 1/3 of Americans can't afford an unexpected $2000 expense

This applies to both a savings account and credit. Thats how poor Americans are, yet republicans thinks food stamps, Meals on Wheels funding for seniors, or public-assisted health insurance are unimportant in America. At a 19% poverty rate, many other developed nations have a lower poverty rate than the US.

So, republicans, what is your plan for getting people out of poverty? We already know cutting taxes for the top 1% and deregulation do absolutely nothing to alleviate poverty. This is all despite the fact that corporate profits are at an all time high and wealthy people are wealthier than ever before.

1 in 3 Americans can't come up with $2,000—here's how much you should be saving
Over the course of the Obie term people couldn't even afford to save $21 a month. Good work there dems. Of course now it's time to blame everyone else.

The problem is in your question: How do you Republicans plan for getting people out of poverty?

It's not the job of government or parties to get people out of poverty. If you are in poverty, it's up to you to get yourself out of it.

Government may have assisted throughout the years that led people into debt, and yes, that can be reversed with enough support from the public. The first step we took was getting a Republican into office. That's a big help right there.

Next is the reduction on ridiculous environmental regulations that we indirectly pay for with every product we buy. That goes hand and hand with the list of other intrusive regulations government inflicts on our job creators. No harm will come of it if we do reduce taxes on our job creators.

Then there are the social programs that have been abused the last decade or so. We have hundreds of thousands of jobs Americans won't even consider because social programs pay so well. Reduce payouts to the point it would be more advantageous to work instead, more people will eventually have more money in their pockets.

Thanks Comrade Obama!

Have you noticed how republicans will bitch about Obama not alleviating poverty yet will contradict themselves by believing the government should stay out of the private market? Hmmm.
Somewhat; Republicans are noticeably disengaged from some of their ardent supporters, the poor and the issues of the working class, preferring, as you mention, to remove government from the general welfare of American people. One particular concern which does not bother Republicans is the financial ruin that can be caused by a catastrophic illness.

But statistically, you have a 1/3 shot at becoming physically disabled at some point in your life, either temporarily or permanently. With close to half of all Americans qualifying for social assistance, in some form or another, those people are in no position to save for such a "rainy day".

Programs like Meals on Wheels, give elderly and disabled people someone who checks on them daily, who will notice if something's seems amiss. These volunteers are often the only outside world contact these people have.

And let's be clear: the middle class is paying these government subsidies, while corporations sit on the highest profits, and the lowest wages (as a percentage of cost), since the Gilded Age. All because Corporations can't afford to pay a living wage. Well, they can but they won't.

And you blame those receiving the assistance.

You really can't fix stupid.

So why did you approve of FORCING people to buy health insurance if they can't afford it.

Yep. In 2015, the US government stole over 1.5 billon dollars out of our economy in Commie Care fines. I'd be willing to bet most of those people couldn't have handled a $2,000 emergency expense either.

IRS: More paid Obamacare fine than expected

First, stop whining about the 1%. You did nothing to address the billionaires in eight years. Second, meals will undergo a 3% cut. Get off your ass and write a check. Third, your war on poverty, which has transferred trillions of dollars from those that earned it to those that did not, has resulted in greater failure and dependency.
Its actually 17% according to the MoW website.

Damn that many paid?

The so called greatest country on earth can't make healthcare affordable for everyone. Methinks the "greatest"label is very questionable.

Too many people and not enough (good paying) jobs.

Get rid of 20 million illegals, we are thenhalf way there to solve the problem, wages would sky rocket and 20 million less illegals would be using our emergency rooms.

Wages skyrocket. American companies won't raise them that much but will cry they can't find workers qualified. Then PAY for the training.
