There was a time when it was about news and truth. But that time is long passed.

With the advent of 24 hour news cycles on cable, the news became about making money. Fear is the main tool of the news media. If we are scared we watch the news much more. The other main tool is scandal. Which ever party is in the White House is the biggest subject for such scandal.
