Saudi Arabia, a top U.S. ally, is also on the U.N. Human Rights Council.
I think it is obvious that economics trumps human rights.

I, for one, agree with OldLadyNow, I don't mean to sound like an angry feminist here, but I for one think that this is a terrible decision because at this moment, I think that Saudi Arabia currently has one of the most oppressed female societies on the entire planet.
Some people just can't step back and view things from a different perspective. I was thinking, after being in this thread, about how fascinating it must be to work at the U.N. with all the languages and customs there and the dialogues about situations around the world. If I had been a young woman in NYC when I began working, I would have headed straight for the U.N. and tried to get a job there. Of course, being a numbnut American who has never been anywhere and only speaks English, I probably would have been cleaning the offices, but damn, it would have been fascinating.I, for one, agree with OldLadyNow, I don't mean to sound like an angry feminist here, but I for one think that this is a terrible decision because at this moment, I think that Saudi Arabia currently has one of the most oppressed female societies on the entire planet.
This is a positive move for women in that country,
to have a starting point to bring about changes
they would like to see take place, not so much for them,
but for the future generations.
Just because you say they're oppressed,
doesn't make it so, that is their culture.
While I don't agree with everything pertaining to their culture
I don't like many things reshaping Western culture.
Western culture mentality...
not allowing women to drive is wrong and oppressive
allowing women to kill babies legally, is an example of woman's rights
women have to have a male guardian at all times...oppressive
pimps, aka, male guardian, is around their women at all times
women would be stoned to death and their families shamed
for sucking dick and licking pussy in a porn movie
women make ALOT of freaking money and are celebrities
sucking dick and licking pussy in a porn flick
women, having to be fully covered is oppressive
pageant mothers, who drown their 7 yr old daughters
in make up, dressed like whores and prance them around...darling
Saudi Arabia is horrible concerning gender equality
compared to the U.S. where 2 genders are better than 1!
