This map shows what $100 dollars is really worth in your state

The only way a dollar is ever going to be worth more in California than Mississippi is if the latter became one of the country's great economies. It's not, it's not even close.

Vote republican...

No woman in her right mind, especially one of child-bearing age, should vote Republican. The Republicans want us barefoot and back in the kitchen and pregnant. They don't care if there is no way or means to take care of an unwanted child.
Maybe create spay clinics for those who do not want children. It really would be much more feasible in the long term.

That's not how family planning works.
If they never plan on having families or it is their desire not to have anymore children it sounds perfectly logical to permanently cure that issue if they so desire.

And they can if they want to, it's called tubal ligation, not spaying. But that doesn't matter, abortion providers are still necessary.

Your dollars go further in some states than others.

The Tax Foundation released a mapshowing the relative value of $100 in every state compared with the national average using the data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

In expensive states like New York, you can afford comparatively less than average; in less expensive states like Mississippi, you can buy relatively more.

"Regional price differences are strikingly large; real purchasing power is 36 percent greater in Mississippi than it is in the District of Columbia," the Tax Foundation wrote.

"In other words, by this measure, if you have $50,000 in after-tax income in Mississippi, you would have to have after-tax earnings of $68,000 in the District of Columbia .

Here's the map:

(Tax Foundation)

The states with the largest relative value of $100 were:

  • Mississippi ($115.34)
  • Arkansas ($114.29)
  • Alabama ($113.90)
  • South Dakota ($113.64)
  • West Virginia ($112.49)
The states with the smallest relative value of $100 were:

  • District of Columbia ($84.67)
  • Hawaii ($85.62)
  • New York ($86.43)
  • New Jersey ($87.34)
  • California ($88.97)

Mississippi also ranks lowest in median household income.

You call it what you like 'spaying' works as a word of choice for me. There are natural cures and methods for prevention of pregnancy along with day after pills. No need to give body parts collection goobers a chance to cash in on aborted baby parts.

Spaying is a term used for dogs. Why not try being an adult for a change?

Why because you are insulted? I think not "dog" terms are understood even by the simplest of minds such as yours.

spaying isn't a shoe. It's an act, performed on four legged creatures. Tubal ligation is what adult women choose to do if they no longer wish to have kids.

Abortion is what women choose to do if they don't wish to have kids now.

There is a difference between all of them.

And?

That also means that Mississippians, on average, must receive more in federal anti-poverty money than New Yorkers.

And, btw, Mississippi is considered the most conservative state in the US.

Sorry, I thought you knew they did and implied it...I wonder if they do?

That would tick me off and ruin a ok debate.

You usually get what you pay for, but,,,low taxes doesn't guarantee a great quality of life.
I live in a state with relatively high taxes but at the same time it is consistently ranks in the very upper tier (1-3) in regards to quality of life, place to raise children (1) and its tops in quality of healthcare and the lowest in the cost of healthcare per-capita. The state is clean, low crime, excellent education system;etc.
There are times that getting a bang for your buck is a win in life.

quality of life,

Is a useless poll and subjective to the person, hey if you love driving an hour to work that's only 2 miles away that's up to you, if you love shoveling snow that's up to you.

I forgot to mention our economy is one of the best economies in the country.
I only have to commute to the office once a week, the rest of the week I telecommute. But when I do commute, it only takes 30-40 minutes.
Shoveling? Ever heard of a snowblower? But I do shovel my decks. I like to shovel as I'm not afraid of exercise. I snow shoe and cross country ski during the winter. Our weather is healthy a contributes to the fact that Minnesota is always rated as one of the healthiest and fittest states in the country.
What are you some sickly whimp?

Heck no.

Chicago guy, moved to south carolina when I was 38.

In more shocking news, houses in Beverly Hills cost more than houses in Po Dunk, Arkansas!

South Carolina is a nice place, good for you.
I moved from Northern California to Minny when I was 38. It was a temporary assignment for the company I worked for. Fell in love with the Twin Cities, changed jobs and moved my family. Never regretted that decision.

South Carolina is one of the original colonies. It sucked back then and it sucks now that's why no one wants to live there . It's only good for stopping hurricanes from hitting the Northeast.

Interesting stuff. I'd like to see a more detailed map, say by county.
I know if I go from WNC to NOLA things are gonna cost more there, not less -- but of course that's also going from rural to city.

Yessiree, Mr. Pogo, things are a bit pricier here than Baton Rouge or Lafayette.

Well I know. Lived there a dozen years until Katrina.

I like Lafayette. I'd go out there every spring for the FIL.

Blue Dog Cafe has the best turkey gumbo ever!
