Thomas Roberts: Reince Priebus, RNC Chairman, Congratulated Me On Gay Marriage (VIDEO)
MSNBC's Thomas Roberts said on Friday's "Morning Joe" that the Republican National Committee chairman and a spokesperson both congratulated him on marrying his husband, even though the party's official stance is against gay marriage.
Joe Scarborough said that the GOP was sending a losing message on gay rights and immigration, and to minority voters. He criticized the "extremists" in the GOP and party leaders for not speaking out against them.
Roberts agreed with Scarborough. "Reince Priebus, when I got engaged, congratulated me at the White House Correspondents' weekend," he said. "Last year Sean Spicer congratulated me on getting married to my husband. Yet they incorporated into the platform of the RNC their stance against marriage equality."
The MSNBC host called the exchanges "odd." "Because why congratulate me? I didn't bring it up," he said. "So it's odd, because then they'll go out and drumbeat that they're against marriage equality. It's weird."
