Time to leave

Hello friends and foe,

I have decided it is time for me to leave, because I prefer another forum, where blatant trolling and numerous personal attacks are strongly moderated. I grew tired of it here, decided to move on to a forum, where moderation doesn't let it destroy threads, the offender gets moderated.

I had to leave as I was starting to get more snotty in my replies which is another reason to leave, having to deal with the chronic trolling and stupid behavior of members who don't intend to discuss the topic, made me lose focus on why I am here. Sooo tired of the stupid partisan thinking and the blatant trolling here, the refusal of members staying on topic was the last straw for me, the off topic rules are not getting enforced much, I feel that I am just wasting my time here.

I prefer real point/counterpoint discussions on any topic, not finding it much here. I have in recent weeks pointed out how many members don't address my Post one articles, they attack the writer, the publisher while ignoring the content of the article. I consider that as a bad habit this forum has developed, which is yet another reason why I have decided to leave.

Two of my PM's to the Mods have been completely ignored, one was a suggestion (May 12) to create a resource section in the forum, which has been done elsewhere to success.

Thank you for the laughs, and the many positive reactions I have received in the two years I have been here. I learned all the while.

Kudos to Moderator Coyote, who often disagree with me, but always civil and tries to carry on a discussion, which forces me to try harder to respond in kind the same way, wish a lot more people can do that here, but alas....., I consider him the BEST of the democrats in the forum, nearly the ONLY one I can argue while staying reasonably calm and civil the whole time.

There is a lot I can say about how poorly this place are being handled by the mostly absente owner, and the undersized Moderation team who doesn't have an everyday Administrator to support them. The trolling and off topic behavior are not getting addressed in time, too many threads damaged early, which turns off part of the membership, it certainly cooled my forum interest here.

Well that is about it.

Not going to respond to the inevitable, even snotty bashing over this post, it would help me leave more easily....

Your exact reasons why I left my old dump. My Lord. This place is like kittygarden compared to where I hung out.

It was a mosh pit with rusty razor blades hanging out of our shoes and teeth marks everywhere. You were unique there if you lasted past post 100. The Flame Zone here is rated G to me.

My only complaint is no matter how hard I try, half my threads are bounced or merged

And also needless to say, I'm the one tommy is most butthurt about. Tommy never debated. He'd just cut and paste long pieces from conspiracy websites, and then add a bunch of his own insults. I'd rip them apart with a smile, and Tommy would scream that I was "trolling" because I didn't spend 3 hours addressing every single sentence in his Gish Gallop that took him 15 seconds to copy. No, that's not how it works. If you want to show the Unibomber Manifesto is crap, you don't have to address every line. You just have to point out how a few pieces are hilarious nonsense which is contradicted by the hard facts, and that's what I'd do with tommy's propaganda.

Only way around it is to pass free time with like minded folks on platforms that are specific to a common cause/goal.

But then it ends up turning into an echo chamber and you end up preaching to the choir.

That happened to me back in the day concerning civil asset forfeiture.

See, these idioms had been tossed on the table, which are meant to be taken metaphorically by definition. Now me, being the weirdo I am, often enjoys taking them way too literally instead.. Such as picturing a minister deliberately trying to preach over his own choir while they sing their hearts out.. Perfect!

There are choices here that are heavily moderated.. Every one is welcome to use the Clean Debate Zone for most any topic that isn't news cycle political conflict..

And I'm personally convinced that the "Invite Only" format would help these problems WITHOUT being echo chambers.. Before ya leave, look at the recent threads in the past week or two. Lots of viewpoints, not a lot of random discord, and people do actual discussion.. Hasn't resembled an echo chamber at all.. The couple we've tried have "invite lists" that are NOT "like minded people".. It CAN be done...

The TOPIC CHOICES pretty much determine the tone.. And the media DRIVES an ever increasing combative tone.. What do you expect?

Main problem here is that you can not enforce "level of effort".. So discussion is never really gonna thrive here. There may be a few smaller boards that PRUNE the "low effort" posters so that they GET better results.. A lot like the difference in performance in private vs public schools.. And in a sense, if you DO that pruning -- you're not representing the anarchy and anger currently in this country.

So -- what you want does exist here.. Like finding healthy food at a county fair, the lines are shorter.. LOL. Apparently ACTUAL discussion that's thought provoking and burns calories is just not publicly as possible as the partisan bullshit tossing that has replaced "adult" discussion... More like fried snicker bars..
