Tool

I knew my dad for years (obviously), and knew he liked classic rock from like the 80'ss and 90's, but generally nothing heavier than AC/DC. Then one day I was bored, and borrowed his iPod to see if he had anything I haven't heard before so I could expand my own music library. I was shocked to see he had entire Tool albums downloaded. I never knew he liked Tool. It was almost like his own little secret that he liked that genre of rock.

Personally, I'm not a huge tool fan, but I do like depressing, emotional, even angry styles of metal.

This song, by Motionless in White is a good description of what I like. The song is based on the singer suffering from an identity crisis. In other words, it is his real self versus his “disguise”. This disguise is a product of “ (his) own design”. His rationales for adopting this alternate persona seem to be based on emotions tantamount to self-doubt, fear and selling out.
