The mistake was Trumps agreement withdrawing most of our troops right before a three month deadline to have all the troops out of Afghanistan.
And instead of Trump pulling everybody out by Christmas 2020 (his tweet to DOD) or January 15th 2021 (his order to the joint chiefs). Trump left without either a Christmas or January 15th or Spring 2021 withdrawal plan.
