But Trump could not manage to perform his role with the same dignity the Navajo displayed. No, Trump had to inject a political slam into the ceremony. There was no reason, no rational reason to invoke a cheap political dig. And he committed this faux pas by using the ethnicity of the honorees!

If Trump were to honor the Freedom Risers of the 1960s by saying 'We had a President who did great damage to this country by passing a healthcare bill. We call him 'Sambo'.', he could not have been as boorish as he was with the Code Talkers.

And his base not only thinks Trump's bigotry was funny, but they cheer his absence of decorum cheering the end of 'political correctness'.

Now, 'political c'correctness'. Some understand political correctness as empathy, respect and simple good manners. Others decry it as muzzling free speech. But my understanding of free speech involves content, not form. Those who dislike political correctness seem to want the right to be crude, dismissive and demeaning. Is their ability to communicate limited to being crude, dismissive and demeaning? If they follow the example of Donald Trump and honor him for it, it certainly appears as if they are that limited.
