No, the software would have to be totally made public if any voting machine company were to try to sue anyone, and that would end their business.
Not only would everyone be able to duplicate it for free, but every piece of software DOES have at least a few bugs, vulnerabilities, etc., so then they would lose.
The biggest mistake is connecting any voting machine to any network.
That immediately makes it totally vulnerable.
Not only is the voting software vulnerable, but to be on a network, you have to allow the network adapter to be a total vulnerability as well.
For example, if you impliment ethernet TCP/IP, then you have to allow RPC, which then defeats all security.
