Trump has the ability to manipulate the market by giving out his government contract making decisions publicly on Twitter, where it is seen directly by the public, which then influences the value of a publicly owned company's stock. Anyone that is close to Trump and knows what he is going to say can then work the stock market knowing beforehand what Trump's statements will do to that company's stock. So, that means they can short sell it.

On that same note, if Trump tells anyone that despite what he said about the company, he'll still give them a contract in the end, those people can buy the stocks cheap, sit on them, and then make money off of it when it comes out that Trump gave them the contracts and the stock goes back up.
