Trump raises the spectre of racial politics

Too many in and out of the GOP want to go back to the racialism that infected the GOP in the 1960s.
--------

Some Republicans worry that Donald Trump will revive the racially polarizing politics of the past, when the GOP suffered losses with minority voters that took decades to try and recoup.

At the 2005 NAACP convention in Milwaukee, then-Chairman of the Republican National Committee Ken Mehlman sought to apologize for that history, conceding that the party had used race as a wedge to win votes.

In 1964 , Republicans had selected a nominee for president, Barry Goldwater, who opposed the Civil Rights Act. And in 1968, Richard Nixon adopted what would come to be known as the “Southern strategy,” which exploited racial strife in the South to consolidate support from white voters. Many of the African-American voters who identified as Republicans, roughly one-third of black voters at that time, left the GOP and did not return.

"Raciallism that infected the GOP in the 60's"
That statement is some of the most blatant revisionist garbage I ever heard. The 1964 Civil rights act was passed by the over whelming majority of Republicans over 80%. The democratic party vote never got above 70%. Jim Crow laws were not enacted by Republicans and not a single black person was lynched by a Republican. Nah all that was courtesy of the Democratic Party and it happened all though out the 60's.

If I was you I would seriously reconsider how the party of slavery and Jim Crow laws went from that to the party of Civil rights in less than a decade. That sort of thing only happens that quick during a bloody revolution and I don't remember seeing any dead racist Democrats in the streets.

We have a racist president, a racist First Lady, a former racist attorney general and all Jake can talk about is a racist republican candidate. The voting public is sick of racism this and racism that and it will not be swayed by such charges.
None of those people are racist, but you most certainly are.

Republicans had taken the black vote for granted and did little for them for over 100 years. With the Civil Rights era, they could no longer do that, which is the only reason they voted in the majority for the Civil Rights Act in 1964; they got hammered by LBJ's landslide and had nothing to lose. They held less than a third of seats in Congress, and were on the verge of losing even more in 1968. They were just being opportunists, which is nothing to brag about, especially '80%' of less than a third of the seats... lol

As for the silly references to 'Jim Crow', the Black Codes in the North were no better, and Lincoln supported even harsher Codes in Illinois in the 1850's; they still had slavery, they just didn't call it that. Lincoln's idea of freedom for blacks doesn't resemble actual freedom, so sniveling about the south as if they were worse is just ridiculous fantasy and ignorant. When the southern desegregation of schools over a few years went from some 80% of schools to 20%, segregation was skyrocketing in northern schools, going from 20% to over 60% of schools segregated, over 80% in some places; see the busing riots of the 1970's for more on that.

The New Democratic Party encourages and promotes racism, and they promote violence and hate crimes; it's all they have now, creating 'identity politics' as their only 'platform', even inventing new fake 'minorities', being so desperate for a plurality they now have to lie and falsify 'issues'.

Actually they are, and openly so, but I'm sure they're happy you're so well trained to not see it.

No they are not. Not in the slightest. This is another propaganda myth your right wing pundits have fed you, which you all, in your inability to think critically, have swallowed whole. You all think we’re supposed to believe such BS also, but we don’t because we have functioning brains.

I'm not a right winger, numbnuts. You just don't have a clue what you're talking about, just dutifully regurgitating your daily list of talking points from the DNC, that's all. The Democratic Party has never once done a thing about any of the economic issues they claim to be 'for', just the opposite, and having no issues they can point to as actually voting for in that area, they peddle the 'Diversity' fraud; they know it appeals to the dim-witted and uneducated, especially Gen-X'ers and Millennials, and of course to racist latinos and black voters, also low information types, like yourself.

You are definitely not a Democrat or a progressive or liberal. Whatever you choose to call yourself, your perspective does not include the truth.

Anyone who spouts this stuff is not interested in the truth:

"The New Democratic Party encourages and promotes racism, and they promote violence and hate crimes"

No real progressives and liberals are Democrats, so you're accidentally right about that part. You don't know enough to be right on purpose about those terms.

Whatever you choose to call yourself, your perspective does not include the truth.

I'm a real liberal, so I don't support racism or promoting hate crimes and the like, thus I can never vote for a Democrat, especially a racist one. You mean my 'perspective' does not include the mindless nonsense you wish was the 'truth', which is just a collection of nonsensical cognitive dissonant tropes and memes prepared for you by dishonest spin doctors that appeals to your biases and hate. They're easy to spout, and require no effort on your part to deconstruct, and you can pat yourselves on the back for being so wonderful and PC.

Says a poster who avoids the 'truth'. Obama's entire history is one of promoting racism and hate, beginning with his attending a virulently racist 'church' with his children for over 20 years, and then claiming he never heard a word his 'Reverend Wright' ever said.

lol ... you people are so gullible it's a wonder you can handle crossing a street without getting killed.

For those few millennials and Gen-X'ers who have a genuine interest in the history of Civil Rights from the 1950's to the 1970's, you can find a copy of Hugh Davis Graham's The Civil Rights Era for a comprehensive study of both the politics and implementations of it, where it began to go wrong under the bureaucrats, and Nixon's role in essentially wrecking it as a genuine improvement. You obviously didn't get any of it in schools or from the New Democrats, as they suppress that sort of critical inquiries. You can learn how the black caucus in Congress and black politicians happily sold out their own people for personal gains, and a lot of other inconvenient truths about the political realities behind your New Democrats Party Establishment and what they really think about black people.

How many of you know that the 'Evul War On Drugs' was lobbied for by such luminaries as Charles Rangel and the NAACP, including the stiffer sentences for crack cocaine over powder coke, for instance? ...

This is getting to be so commonplace. Someone doesn't like my post so they call me names, talk about how stupid I am, and claim I am a drone for right wing media. They never provide any facts or anything else to back up their claim they just rant on about how you can't say that about my masters. So let's follow through with examples to support my point. I welcome your efforts to rebut these specific examples, but most dems cannot stand up to the sunshine.

The seminal moment of racism in the Obama administration, the one the portends all the other racially motivated decisions, is Eric holders failure to prosecute two black panthers standing with billy clubs and intimidating voters at a voting station in philly. This sent the precedent for the justice department to not even investigate civil rights violations by blacks. Obama consistently took the side of black men in the high profile cases such as trayvon and Ferguson even though justice found both men at fault. He has used racism in both elections to disparage his opponents even when no racism was present, he is a proponent of new age white privilege. He appointed a second black person to be attorney general when blacks make up only 13 per cent of the population, a definite in your face racial statement. Eric holder says we are too scared to confront racism, but the only one scared is holder himself who will not engage in a discussion outside of academia. Michelle, I have never been proud of my country, Obama has deep seated contempt for any white people unless they are very rich or Hollywood types she can hobnob with. If the comment from her about living in a house that slaves built is not a racially incendiary comment, I don't know what is. Obamas joined at the hip relationship with race baiter Al Sharpton, a felon and a tax evader, who has spent many nights at the White House, shows how this president uses shady surrogates to inflame black white relationships whenever it suits him. Lastly let me repeat for the up tenth time, race relations are worse today than when Obama was elected, pure fact.

I am not a racist E. Far from it. Racism after all is just preferential treatment for your race or ethnicity above others. Really this is just human nature that has been going on for eons. Obama thinks his race deserves special treatment because they have had it so rough and so the scales of justice must be tipped in their favor no matter what injustice is visited on the rest of the population. He subscribes to the black lives matter movement, his party has sheepishly declared black lives matter more than everyone's lives, a statement so full of idiocy that it is ludicrous.

So E what you think is racism from me is really a disgust for people who equivocate. Inotherwords if your side does it it is cool, if my side does it it is racist, homophobic, and redneck. People like you who are hypocrites, who countenance behavior by yourselves, but condemn the same behavior from others are easily outed. Obamas post racial presidency has been as much of a con as the rest of his presidency.

I could never understand the Black people being gung ho for either of the Clintons. Nafta alone wiped out millions of factory jobs that Blacks used to work at. Then Bill hooked up with Gingrich to end 'welfare as we know it'. Then of course Al Gore streamlining government, which was code word for outsourcing government jobs to private industry, which also hurt employment prospects for Blacks in the Federal Government. Obama's no better with his ultra top secret TPP, and he's finalized other trade 'deals' that bush jr. and cheney started. So much for liberals being for the working stiff anymore. Course, republicans are no better, with the possible exception of Trump, who says he'll end the outsourcing of companies to low wage countries.
