Trump tells Lester Holt: Don’t fact-check debates

I have never heard a candidate declare that you are not allowed to challenge my lies

Maybe Trump should concentrate on telling the truth for once

One person's lie is another person's truth.

"Hands up, Don't shoot!" comes to mind.

Candy Crowley thought Romney had "lied", so she "corrected" him. She was wrong.

We already proved using the moderator as a fact checker does not work. They are not experts on all facts on all subjects.

Crowley was correct. Romney was put in his place

Even in 2012, Republicans were spreading lies about Benghazi

.

It's not the moderator's job to fact check during the debate. Some of the moderator's would not know a fact if it bit them in the ass.
OF COURSE IT IS the moderator's, if it is a blatant lie....these debates are NOT for the candidates, these debates are for US CITIZENS to be more informed on who to vote for in the election....

period!

Crowley came off as partisan, and she probably was. There's a reason for the moderator to just make sure rules are followed. However, both of these candidates are known for ... lying. So, some form of cotemporaneous, or near term, truth outing would be a good idea. If they know they'll be outed, maybe they won't lie. However, I'm not convinced Donald even knows what truth is. Hillary knows and she avoids it like ebola.

Why not just hook both candidates up to lie detectors that we can see at the bottom of the screen?

"Donald Trump says NBC's Lester Holt should not correct his or Hillary Clinton's facts while moderating the first presidential debate.
"I think he has to be a moderator," Trump said on "Fox & Friends" Thursday.
"I mean, if you're debating somebody and if she makes a mistake or I make a mistake ... we'll take each other on," he added. "But I certainly don't think you want Candy Crowley again."
Crowley interjected during an October 2012 debate between President Obama and Mitt Romney, after Romney said it took Obama two weeks to refer to the Benghazi, Libya, attacks as terrorism.
"He did call it an act of terror," Crowley told Romney, though she added that he was "correct" that it took that long for the White House to acknowledge the attack was not related to an anti-Islamic video.
Trump on Thursday ripped Crowley's handling of the incident, urging Holt not to follow suit.
"She turned out to be wrong," he said. "I really don't think you want that. That was a very pivotal moment in that debate. And it really threw the debate off and it was unfair. No, I think you have to have somebody that's just - let them argue it out.""
Trump tells Lester Holt: Don’t fact-check debates
===========================================================================

Now that is a classic. It doesn't surprise me one bit. A proven pathological liar, doesn't want to be fact checked during a debate. Trump won the "Liar of the Year" award primarily for his huge amount of falsehoods in the GOP debates.
2015 Lie of the Year: Donald Trump's campaign misstatements
Donald Trump's file
And doesn't Hillary Clinton also have an honesty problem?
I for one, would love to have both candidate, fact check throughout all three debates.
It's fair to the candidates and even more important, it would be great for the American voters. It would also a nice break from all the negative and typically false advertisements that dumb down voters.
WHO'S WITH ME?

...So says a Candy Crowley fan: Heads I win, tails you lose. Moderators are not participants, and should not interject their personal opinions or beliefs. Unless your are a left wing fascist who wants to control discussion and muzzle the opposition.

P.S. Would you like the moderators recite each of Hillary's deleted emails and ask why her facilitators are taking the 5th?

"So says a Candy Crowley fan"-jwoodie

Well jwoodie, like starting of your post with a lie. How admirable.
Got a deal for you, prove I am a Crowley fan and I'll leave USMB, when you fail (and you will), you leave USMB forever.
Put your money where your mouth is!
Of course you are a Trumpster , so lying is alright with you anyway.
What are you afraid of with fact check?
And then the rest of your post? I want BOTH candidates to be fact checked, how is that being a leftly? Also, it seems in my post stated Clinton has a problem with honesty.
So, do you want to explain your entire post? Or do you want to leave it for what it is?

The claims by both candidates in all of these debates will be fact checked beyond belief by social media people during the debate and the so called experts after it. Let the moderators ask questions and the candidates defend their claims and challenge their opponents .

Moderators study the questions, so they are knowledgeable enough to ask followup questions from the candidates, I do NOT believe moderators should jump in....on every single lie and issue...no way...!!!! There should be back and forth between candidates on that....BUT if Hillary or Trump tells a whopper Pinocchio Pants on fire.... then it should be noted why it is wrong and then candidates given the opportunity to express why they believe they are right.

One thing I don't want to see, is Trump primary antics with 'lying Ted' and 'small Rubio'' and telling us all how big and how well his penis is working.... please spare us and spare the world from having to witness that kind of immature shenanigans!

if a moderator know that an obvious lie has been said, then he or she should call the candidate out on it. period. if they can't do that, then they should at the very least ask follow up questions 9which they do already) & have the candidate 'expand' on the lie, so they can dig an even deeper hole.

Followup questions are appropriate for clarification, but moderators should not contradict a candidate with their own opinions or beliefs, which may themselves be factually inaccurate. Did you see the recent episode of Jeopardy! where the guest MSM talking heads couldn't answer simple questions about politics and government? Candy Crowley isn't the only self-assured idiot "journalist" out there.

The moderator asks a question and listens to the response

Unacceptable responses get a follow-up question. Responses that avoid the question or contain distortions or outright lies deserve a follow-up
And a follow up is not a 'fact check.' The moderators should not be fact checking on the spot - that is not what fact checking is. Fact checking is getting sources and providing proof that what was said was correct or incorrect and is literally impossible to do on the spot.

The debaters should call each other out on any lies. Prove the liar wrong.

The candidates do not debate each other

They are asked questions by a moderator and respond to the moderator...not the other candidate

With the frequency of Trumps lies and half truths it will be difficult for anyone to keep up
Candidates respond to each other all the time as they should. It is Hillary's responsibility to call Trump out for anything he says and she is going to be doing that throughout the entire debate.

That is the job of the moderator. To accept or reject a response

We don't want the debate to digress into a....You lie....NO YOU LIE shouting match
That plays right into Trumps wheelhouse
No it is not. That is not what a moderator does at all. They are a mediator and their SOLE purpose is to ask questions and enforce the rules of the debate. There will be a wider discussion about every little detail that the candidates state after the debates when there are sources available to prove what was bullshit what was not.

Romney, Obama, and Crowley all signed an agreement that the moderator was not supposed to inject their perspective on the candidates' answers.

You guys should probably fact check my statement. Let me know how it turns out.

Yes it is the moderators job

THEY ask the question and consider the response before moving to the next topic
Lies and distortion is not an appropriate response and should be challenged on the spot

Romney was basically an honest guy...too honest at times
But he still lied about Benghazi

Can you imagine the whoppers that Trump is going to tell about Benghazi?

The moderators are going to be very busy

What is a Moderator supposed to do when Trump starts spinning his conspiracy theories?

Just laugh at him?

All this presumes one of two possibilities:

1. Hillary will stumble off her sickbed and somebody will prop her up at the podium.

2. Hillary's body double will learn to "Speak Southern" and walk firmly and confidently onstage.

Lie detectors a great idea! Especially rigged if they deliver about 20,000 Volts when a lie is sensed. That might even keep Hillary awake for the whole 90 minutes but the pee-bag would surely overflow.

[

The point is the american public given all the daylight possible can decide. I don't subscribe to your partisanshit.

No, you subscribe to the "partisanshit" of George Soros.

I take it you see Hillary as too weak and dull witted to debate Trump without the intervention of leftist hack "moderators?"

The rest of us do as well.

We all expect her to be slaughtered in the debates - IF she doesn't fall ill, and have to cancel. :eusa_whistle:

Actually, Crowley lied about Benghazi, as you are lying now - shitflinger.

Crowley corrected Romney as he started to spin Benghazi lies

Republicans are very good at that
