The problem isn't that he was "merely making an observation." The problem is he made no effort to squash any potential violence.

He's running for president. Don't you think he has a responsibility, even as a candidate, to prevent violence?

If after postering there will be violence if he's incarcerated, he sternly puts out the message, 'but do NOT resort to violence under any circumstance," many of his supporters will abide by him.
