(Presumably, the nearly illiterate Trump means "illegal southern border crossings," not the border itself, that is down.) --> Assuming Trump believes his own claim is accurate, he lacks the "business case" for Mexico or the U.S. spending $18B to build a goddamned wall on the southern border. Even Trumpkins should be able to suss out that much.
  • Number of 2016 U.S. immigration enforcement's Southern border arrests: 58,478
  • Number of 2016 Mexican immigration enforcement's Southern border interdictions of would-be illegal entrants to the U.S: 160,000.

Given the above, it seems notably more cost effective to direct resources to Mexico and let them stop the would-be illegal immigrants. And don't ya know, in 2015, both Republicans and Democrats figured out as much.
