In a Republic, actually
‘Trump's legal defense against Robert Mueller's unrelenting special counsel investigation is beginning to look as chaotic as his early days in the White House.

A sequence of reflexive tweets and comments about the Russia probe from the White House and Trump's legal team has spectacularly backfired, suggesting that the administration was knocked off balance by news of Michael Flynn's plea deal and raising questions about whether its struggles reflect a deteriorating legal position for the President.
[…]
The competency of Trump's team came into focus after a weekend of ill-advised tweets and an explosive interview with Axios by Trump's personal attorney John Dowd on Monday.
[…]
Dowd told Axios in an interview that the President, by dint of his Constitutional authority, could not by definition obstruct justice.

An arcane legal argument turned into a political disaster, as news shows recalled disgraced President Richard Nixon's comment: "When the President does it, that means that it is not illegal."’

The article goes on to speculate that with a moron like Trump as a client, any lawyer – no matter how skilled – would end up looking foolish.

The Trump Administration legal defense team is the fastest growing sector of the American economy.

What defense? There is no "Trump Russia defense" because the Mueller investigation isn't set up for a defense. What's true is the uncomfortable fact that the allegations that set up the Mueller independent council were so vague that there was no criminal threshold to begin with.

another jones thread in disarray....care to comment jones?........

It's possible that the FBI leadership is in disarray after it became evident that a FBI agent on the Mueller staff was a freaking traitor and plotting against the Commander in Chief. Fox's Tucker Carlson noted that the FBI leadership disregarded Congress request for answers. It leaves the question of whether the FBI has decided to become a rogue organization responsible to no federal branch of government.
