U.S. colleges scramble after new Trump order on foreign students

And another EO, that makes no sense. Is it because Trump is impotent to affect the opening of public schools under local control? Wants to destroy higher education? Is pissed at Harvard? This new order contradicts previous policy regarding Covid....what a mess.

Many U.S. colleges were scrambling on Tuesday to modify plans for the fall semester in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic a day after the Trump administration issued an order that could force tens of thousands of foreign students to leave the country if their schools hold all classes online.
The announcement blindsided academic institutions grappling with the logistical challenges of safely resuming classes, particularly after the federal government had granted exceptions to the rules limiting online learning for foreign students when colleges and universities in March rushed to shutter campuses and move to online classes as the pandemic forced lockdowns.

There are more than a million foreign students at U.S. colleges and universities, and many schools depend on revenue from foreign students, who often pay full tuition.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency said institutions moving entirely to online learning must submit plans to the agency by July 15. Schools that will use only in-person learning, shortened or delayed classes, or a blend of in-person and online learning must submit plans by Aug. 1.

Every Chinese national needs to be sent home ASAP

Defund the universities.
Absolutely.

...Let their government educate their children and we'll educate ours. Why is it always our responsibility to give people outside our country everything they want from us?

Being a magnet for the best and brightest students from all over the world is in OUR best interest, you myopic moron.

It is? Please elaborate on that for me.
Are you seriously this thick? You can't see for yourself that bringing the best minds in the world here is an enormous part of what makes our research institutes the best in the world? You don't know how the product of these institutes benefits America? You don't realize how often, if not chased out by spineless, dimwitted xenophobes, these best and brightest remain and even permanently settle in the US because they have had the chance to experience the freedom and opportunity that sets us apart from other nations? You can't see how much economic activity follows the global academic influx the US experiences every year? Students, their tuition, their families, their spending, and their travel itself all benefit our economy. All of this, and more, makes the US stronger and other nations weaker.

Are you getting enough oxygen wherever you are?

No, I can't see any of that. Tuitions, rent, economic activity still happens whether foreigners are doing it or Americans; probably more so with American students. And why can't we Americans create the best research in the world? Are you saying our people are inadequate? This isn't 1924. These people are aware of what freedom and opportunity are all about. They don't need to come here and experience what they already know.

What makes our nation stronger is when we provide for our own people, not people from other countries. When we shutout or own people to accommodate others is what limits opportunities for our very own.

When we can take care of our own people, and then if we have room, take care of others, that's the way it should be done, because most if not all countries do exactly that.

... And why can't we Americans create the best research in the world? ....

Holy shit, you're stupid. You think it just magically happens because you crush an empty bud light can on your forehead and shout "fuk yeah!" real loud? The best research comes from the interaction, collaboration, and competition between the greatest minds IN THE WORLD, including Americans of course. Many of the best and brightest who contribute to making American universities the best IN THE WORLD stay on after their studies and become AMERICANS. You are shockingly stupid.

......

You are absolutely wrong. Every year many, many people come to America BECAUSE of our freedom and opportunity. Go ask a newly naturalized American citizen how they feel about experiencing it. Have you ever spoken to such an American?

You clearly do not understand the first thing about my great nation.

You realize the vast, vast, vast majority of Chinese students in American secondary and higher education are really here for an education and are not agents of the CCP, right? The bug-eyed hysteria of too many here is just weird.

Millions of Americans depends on these foreign students.
If you mean financially overextended professors and administrators there are ways to supplement their income besides collaborating with America’s enemy
