City council members gathered this week in an upmarket LA neighborhood to remove 'No U-turn' signs that they say were a part of the area's homophobic history.

In 1997, signs that conveyed messages like, 'No cruising. No U-turns. Midnight to 6 am,' were posted throughout the Silver Lake neighborhood in an effort to curtail hookups among gay men.

On Monday, city leaders were joined by local LGBTQ+ individuals when they removed the final few 'No U-Turn' and 'No Cruising' signs.

Comment:
It sounds like the city was trying to deter prostitution on that boulevard.
It's not "homophobic" to try and deter crime in your community.
Crime lowers people's property value.
So now they have made their community worse instead of better.
It is also dangerous.
Someone could get rearended while stopping to "hook-up".

I think you are misinterpreting the idea of "gay cruising". It isn't "prostitution" as the homos don't exchange money. They are just looking for gay love- aka male on male butt hole violation- and this is how they meet new homo partners .

Or you could try the very sensible policy of legalizing sex work.

Then the sex workers can work in nice clean facilities with adequate parking... problem solved.

Maybe they can put the Whorehouses next to your domicile, or better yet next door to the local high school?
The pimps will be in good position to recruit new talent from the senior class.

Pimps only exist because prostitution is illegal.

As for legalized sex work, you can zone it to specific areas, just like any other business.

All the problems associated with sex work- abuse of minors, abuse of drugs, abuse of women, spread of disease - happen because it's illegal and there's no enforcement.

When you make something illegal, anything goes.

If you make something legal, you can regulate it.
