Uvalde school district suspends police force, victims' parents react

Why not replace your broken gun culture instead of trying to blame others for the failings of the 2a.
This has nothing to do with the gun culture or Second Amendment.

It has to do with the right’s failure and refusal to invest in education, mental health screening and treatment, and ensuring citizens have access to affordable mental healthcare.

Conservatives claim that mass shootings and gun crime and violence have nothing to do with easy access to guns and everything to do with mental illness – yet conservatives refuse to provide the funding and support needed to make mental healthcare an effective deterrent to gun crime and violence.

The Uvalde mass shooting certainly illustrates the wrongheaded idiocy of arming teachers.

Do you always have to be this fucking daft?

400 cops stood outside an unlocked classroom door and allowed 21 teachers and students to be murdered for 90 minutes....

Meanwhile, an two armed citizens, in two different mass public shootings, with their legal, concealed carry guns, stopped two mass public shooters in seconds........they were not Navy SEALs, they were not cops or SWAT team members......

You are an idiot.

West Virginia woman....

Witnesses said Butler seemed agitated and left but returned to the complex shortly after, armed with an AR-15 style rifle, and started shooting at the crowd.

Police said a woman pulled out her pistol, shooting and killing him.

"This lady was carrying a lawful firearm," Hazelett said. "A law abiding citizen who stopped the threat of probably 20 or 30 people getting killed. She engaged the threat and stopped it. She didn't run from the threat, she engaged it. Preventing a mass casualty event here in Charleston."

As Hunt and other partiers had a bite to eat in the kitchen, the suspect pulled out a gun and began firing on the crowd, sending everyone fleeing, Mendez recounted.

Mendez was shot in the head in front of his wife, who rushed to his side and believed he was dead due to the amount of blood covering his face. She then grabbed their two daughters and put them into a room deeper in the house, barricading them and other children inside.

"She barricaded the door with the dresser. There were three other children in there, not including my two daughters. A total of five kids. She … throws them in the closet, throws clothes over them. Tells them, ‘Be quiet. Do not make a peep if you hear loud noises in this room,’" Mendez said of his wife's actions.

As Hunt continued his alleged rampage, two other women began fighting back against the suspect and screamed for Mendez, knowing he had a concealed carry weapon, Mendez said.

"By the glory of God or the adrenaline and just everything, just the will to live and the will to protect my family, I was able to hear those pleas, those yells for help. I heard my name. And I was able to get up," he said.

He was able to pull out his firearm and shoot the suspect four times in the chest.

"Detectives have determined the individual who shot Jason, and others who fought against Jason, were acting in self-defense and defense of other innocent parties," Sgt. Tommy Hale said in a press release days after the incident, KTAR reported at the time.

Shotgun attacker at Church service....

Wilson’s single shot quickly ended the attack that killed Wallace, 64, and White, 67, at the West Freeway Church of Christ in the Fort Worth-area town of White Settlement. He said the entire confrontation was over in no more than six seconds. More than 240 congregants were in the church at the time.

Southerland Springs Church shooting .....

Willeford propped his AR-15 on the pickup’s hood and peered through the sight. He could see a holographic red dot on the man’s chest. He fired twice. He wasn’t sure he’d hit him, though he was later told that the man had contusions on his chest and abdomen consistent with getting shot while wearing body armor. Regardless, the gunman stopped shooting and ran for a white Ford Explorer that was idling outside the chapel, roughly twenty yards from where Willeford had positioned himself.

Penn. psychiatric center shooting intended mass killing: DA

The Pennsylvania patient accused of killing his caseworker in a psychiatric center shooting carried dozens of bullets — and he would have likely continued shooting if a doctor didn’t fire back, officials said.

Richard Plotts, 49, is expected to be charged with murder for allegedly opening fire at Sister Marie Lenahan Wellness Center in Darby Thursday.

After he killed his caseworker, 53-year-old Theresa Hunt, and shot his psychiatrist, Lee Silverman, the wounded doctor fired back, stopping the attack, District Attorney Jack Whelan said in a Friday press conference.

Plotts had 39 more bullets on him. He intended a mass shooting, Whelan said.

This past Sunday, exactly two weeks to the day after the Pulse attack, there was a mass shooting outside a night club in South Carolina. I’m sure you haven’t heard about it, and for two good reasons. The first reason is that the attempted murderer was unsuccessful in killing any of his victims. The second reason is because the attempted murderer was stopped by a concealed carrier at the club drawing his weapon and putting a bullet into the bad guy.

Because I've read history, including the Federalist Papers. Yes, the 2A enshrines the right of people to keep and bear arms, but the extremes to which the gun lobby has gone to interpret what that right means is absurd and foreign to anything the Founding Fathers would have ever imagined.

I have no problems with the 2A or the 1A - it's ideology that has corrupted the Constitution. Ideology is stupid, including some left wing ideology. The people who formed this country never wanted ideology, because they knew how fucked it was. They wanted a new kind of society built on the foundation of economic growth, liberty, civic duty, personal responsibility, and moderation. These are actually conservative values, but things people who pose as conservatives piss on at every turn.

Europe murdered 15 million people in just about 6 years.....if the Founders had known about that, they would have been far more clear and mandated that every home have every weapon available to keep our government from doing the same.

Not to excuse or defend the Uvalde police department, and playing somewhat of a devil’s advocate, but was it too much to expect from a backwater, Podunk PD.

If the police department isn’t considered to be trained and professional, is such harsh criticism warranted.

And are we to expect every backwater, Podunk PD to be capable of successfully addressing a mass shooting.

They had mass public shooting just a few weeks before the attack, you moron......they knew that they were supposed to go right at the attacker, not stand around for 90 minutes.

But ya see..it wasn't even that..it was a police dept. entirely funded and directed by the school district! Not a local dept. but basically school police..more hired to intimidate the students and parents into compliance..than any legit police purpose.

They are stooges..and are still getting paid..they have not yet been fired, just suspended..with a return probable.

Which reinforces the argument that criticism of any such law enforcement agency is unwarranted – agencies lacking the training and experience to successfully address a mass shooting; agencies essentially being scapegoated.

It doesn't take Navy Seals to deal with a shooter.....you approach them and shoot at them.....very easy to do, it is the doctrine of every police force in the entire country since Columbine......there is an active shooter, first cops to arrive immediately enter the building and confront the shooter because by confronting them, it keeps them from shooting unarmed, innocent civilians.......

Dude..they stood by, with guns in hand, for over an hour while children were being murdered..fuck them to hell!

What part of

“Not to excuse or defend the Uvalde police department, and playing somewhat of a devil’s advocate”

do you not understand.

Debating ‘skills’ on this site are piss-poor.

No one is defending LEOs on the ground.

But the problem needs to be addressed comprehensively – blaming and vilifying the LEOs is pointless.

Their superiors are just as much to blame – if not more so.

Video clips of armed cops checking their cell phone for missed calls and reading email while children died. Beyond repugnant.

Shit head.....that cop was checking his phone for his wife who was one of the teachers who was murdered.

The Chief of the Uvalde Unified Indpendent School District was fired. He was denied the seat on the city council that he had won. He should be put on trial for murder 21-People, but I do not think that will happen.

That police stood around for over an hour, checking their cell phones and calling their families is criminal.

But the State of Texas does it's own fair share of blame. Lax if not no-existent gun control. Allowing an 18-Year to go out and purchase a Semi-Automatic weapon is unforgivable.

Thoughts and prayers do not do jack shit after the fact. Holding press conferences condemning the murder of school children means nothing if the State of Texas is NOT willing to enact stricter gun laws.

So..the School PD is suspended? Better to fire the lot of them--and let the trained pros handle it~

The Uvalde, Texas, school district -- still facing withering criticism over its police department's failings both during the May 24 elementary school massacre and since -- announced the suspension of the entire district police force on Friday.
Hours later, Uvalde school district Superintendent Hal Harrell announced he would be retiring. There was no timeframe given for Harrell's retirement, but the transition will be discussed in a closed session of the school board on Monday.
The district said it's requested more Texas Department of Public Safety troopers to be stationed on campuses and at extracurricular activities amid the police department suspension, adding, "We are confident that staff and student safety will not be compromised during this transition."

The length of the school district police suspension is not clear.
The should've took their balls as well, since they are not using them.
