The word 'venom' refers usually to just the poisonous substance of a snake-bite. However, 'venom' is also used colloquially to refer to a kind of spiritual or social poison (such as malice or corruption).

The complexity of capitalism and modern globalization brings to mind the terrible reality of venom in the real world --- i.e., terrorism, Internet-hackers, biochemical warfare, eco-pollution.

Venom is in a way real and we can think about why the term denotes a human conceptualization of being resilient in the face of mortally dangerous spiritual poisons.

How can we think about 'venom' when we think about the 'commercial optimism' towards our capitalism-centric 'TrumpUSA'?

Maybe comic books can help...

"This is so incredibly exciting! The fact that America has elected a business-wizard (Donald Trump) as its President must mean we're ready to embrace all the idealism of capitalism/commerce in the real world(!). Then again, maybe 'TrumpUSA' is actually an ominous sign that America/humanity is willing to take 'short-cuts' to happiness (by electing a casino-baron as world leader to simply 'deal' with the odious problems of modern commerce!). Should we be idealistic or 'practical'? Does being practical mean cynicism?

I like movies about perturbed individuals rising to prominence by dealing with even greater challenges --- e.g., The Dirty Dozen, 12 Monkeys, Blood & Wine, Moll Flanders. Imagine a world in which prison inmates are 'recruited' by the U.S. army to perform a daring 'suicide-mission' and American citizens rally to support them in this special 'cause.' Should journalists say that such a 'dirty-team' of convict-soldiers reveals the inherent 'patriotism' in every soul, or should they wonder if they are 'conveniently' drafting 'expendable criminals' to do a military task that 'normal law-abiding' citizen-soldiers and West Point graduates would rather avoid?

In other words, to avoid venom (or spiritual poison and detrimental cynicism), we must practice faith. Faith is never easy, but it's faith that helps us say that Wall Street 'sharks' (regardless of how utterly-ruthless they are!) invigorate the national economy with savvy and energetic economic decision-making. Without faith, we might think that America is 'run' by sharks, since capitalism has made us all naturally and irreversibly obsessively competitive! It's faith that helps us say that drug-addicts can support each other in support/counselling groups and avoid cynically saying (in a self-defeating tone) that drug-addiction support groups are simply a sign of moral decay.

That's why I intend to begin a crusade to support democracy and TrumpUSA, and if anyone defies me, I will decapitate them. The modern world has no patience for those who stand in the way of pure progress. If profit-practicality is the best 'strategy,' then we must censor all those unwilling to embrace the idealism of faith and support each and every 'Wall street shark.' I say this with great confidence, since I'm not from Earth. I'm from a faraway planet, and I arrived here and merged with a hapless wanderer...and became the 'dark-knight' known as...Venom!"
