Was Collapsed Florida bridge built by undocumented workers?

Supposedly the engineers were doing a stress test on the bridge when it collapsed
The bridge was just was movd into place last Saturday and was not yet open to the public.

Just sad, this is really tragic :(
I cant imagine this... a brand new bridge, must have been a steel problem I think ... whatever happened, lets hope they learn from this that it will never happen again.

This is incredible. Either some engineers fucked up their calculations or some materials were defective, or possibly the reinforcing steel was not properly connected. The legal stuff will be going on for a decade. Many different people and entitles will be sued, and collect. And remember, a PROFESSIONAL cannot hide his/her liability through a corporate shell. The architect and PE's who signed off on these drawings are in big trouble, personally and professionally.

Looked like a pretty cool bridge. Pity.
Footbridge contractors had 2 other "broken" bridges, suit filed 2 weeks ago!
I'm just waiting for 'political' connections. Stay tuned...

Two companies behind collapsed $14 million Florida pedestrian bridge also built other collapsed bridges: report

Two companies which build a “first-of-its-kind pedestrian bridge” which collapsed at Florida International University have recently been accused of unsafe practices. One even built another collapsed bridge, reports Miami New Times.

First responders are still trying to rescue people buried underneath the $14.2 million bridge over six lanes of busy traffic. Several have been reported dead already.

But according to New Times, two companies involved in the FIU bridge have faced lawsuits regarding other collapsed bridges.

South Florida’s Munilla Construction Management, one of the companies that build the bridge, was accused of shoddy work at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood airport in a lawsuit filed just two weeks ago.

In that case, TSA worker Jose Perez says that a makeshift bridge erected by the company broke as he was walking on it on Oct. 20, 2016

“They built this makeshift bridge in the area where all the employees work, and it was poorly done. He fell and hurt himself really badly,” Perez’s lawyer told New Times. “He had multiple broken bones and damage to his spine … They did shoddy work.”

Another company that partnered on the bridge, Tallahassee-based Figg, also had a bridge collapse while being built. That collapse happened in 2012, in Norfolk, Virginia. Four people were injured, the Virginian-Pilot reported, and officials there said the company...

MCM built a terminal at the Port of Miami, something at Fort Lauderdale Intl Airport, and many other projects throughout the years.

MCM is led by Jorge Munilla, who graduated from FIU’s School of Business Administration in 1997 and has been president of the firm since 1983. He and his five brothers, who also work at MCM, are the sons of Fernando Munilla Sr., who had founded a major construction company in Cuba. Today, the firm has 1,200 employees, according to Jorge Munilla’s LinkedIn page.

MCM has worked on major government contracts in South Florida, Texas and Panama, including the $128 million expansion of Terminal 4 at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, PortMiami’s Terminal F, and the widening and reconstruction of State Road 821. Other projects include the bridges of the Isles of Las Olas and Miami Beach’s South Pointe Park. MCM was involved in construction litigation tied to the 19-acre park that resulted in a $478,100 judgment against the firm in 2015.
Here’s what we know about MCM, the builder of the FIU bridge that collapsed

No, MCM is the main contractor.

This our first Design-Build with FIGG Bridge Engineers, a nationally acclaimed, award-winning firm based out of Tallahassee. FIGG has designed iconic bridges all over the country, including Boston's famous Leonard P.

I was just pulling up info on the builders. Apparently, the designers are a company named FIGG. Multilayered.

They only build the bridges Americans don't want to build-or cross over-or walk under.

Is this a Florida kind of stupid? If it was not open to the public to walk over, did the engineers think a failure meant that the bridge would fall UP?
