Weatherman Fired for slip of the tongue

How sick is this? Is this really what we've come down to? Shame on the station managers.
New York meteorologist fired after using racial slur on air
You're a krackah lickin' poster, see how it works? Yet if I was hired by someone to represent my business and he is insulting a large percentage of potential customers, he would be fired on the air if it twas me in charge..

What if he was not insulting a large percentage of potential customers and it was just a slip of the tongue as he said it was?
If it was behind closed doors that would be different..

That doesn't answer the question. Again: What if he was, in fact, not insulting a large percentage of potential customers and it was just a slip of the tongue as he said it was?[
What is being said with the slip of the tongue?
So what? People trip over words every day. Do you want to be judged for it and lose your job over it?

That was quite a "slip."
It happens. Do you think he should have been fired?

I think a simple round of interviews with his co-workers would suffice. If he's known to be a racist, out he goes. If everyone says no, he's a great guy, it's a simple mistake and an on-air apology should make it all go away. Professional race baiters can pound sand.

So calling MLK a coon is wrong? How about a longwinded bible thumping coon? Is that better?

What is being said with the slip of the tongue?

First let me say that I think it was "koong"; the vowel sound in "Luther" with the consonants of "King".

Secondly, what difference does it make what was said if it was an honest slip up?

That type of language is not taken lightly any more. Period/Full stop.

A private company made a decision that best suits them, I agree with it.

One thing's for sure, he won't make THAT mistake again!

You live live and you learn.

He'll be alright though.

White supremacists don't get fired. They get transferred.

That's all that will happen to him. He'll be fine. Some other channel will pick him up

He'll be fine.

The thing is if he's says shit like this at work on air, just imagine how he talks off air ?

It's like when Hank Williams talked shit about Obama but then he got called back
Or the official who called Michelle Obama and "ape" she got her job back

So now he's a white supremacist?
I suspect that he is. Why ? Because I can't prove it.

You suspect he's a white supremacist because you can't prove it? If you were falsely accused of murder, is this how you would want the authorities to approach your case?

So because there is no master list of who is and isn't a white supremacist then I'm duty bound to suspect all white people.

Are you duty bound to be racist?
What does a white person have to do for them to be a white supremacist ?

So a mistake in speech and an apology isn't enough. Harsh punishment these days. You racist motherfucker.

Do you believe the guy deliberately said "coon"?
I don't know what's in this man's heart.

I just know what came out of his mouth.

He said "Coon" and he got fired for it.

That's all I know.

On another subject, do YOU believe that Barack Obama was born in Hawaii or Kenya?

^^^^^Why do WORDS hurt you so much? When I was little, my mother taught me that words can't hurt me. Why are people so concerned with what others say? Are they that insecure in who they are?

Obama isn't the topic. Do you believe the punishment fit the crime?

Control and power. That's the purpose of political correctness. Those that will not fall into line must be punished.

Yes, the punishment fit the crime.

I'm curious, do YOU believe that Barack Obama was born in Hawaii or Kenya?

Why does that matter? Do you just want to categorize people just to fit YOUR PREJUDICE about them?

Why do you care about what others say? I care more about what people DO. Words can't hurt me, nor can symbols, flags or statues.

The words are not the issue.

As I said b4 the issue is that his slurs take place against a backdrop of systemic and institutional racism. And that backdrop of housing and job discrimination, racial profiling, unequal health care access, and a media that regularly presents blacks in the worst possible light makes his slurs take on a different meaning.

You see blk people using slurs against whites like honky or cracker sound truly pathetic because whites know there is no force to back up those words

What are black ppl gonna do next ? Deny whites jobs ? loans ?

Yeah right

But black people are well aware that slurs used against us are just the tip of the iceberg.

If by "not taken lightly anymore" you mean racial slurs should not be taken lightly, I agree. However, if by "not taken lightly anymore" you mean we should approach all such incidents as guilty until proven innocent without the benefit of first proving malice or intent, I heartily disagree.

So basically you want to perpetuate your own victimhood, instead of rising up, on your own to be better human beings, and contribute to society in a positive manner.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, but do you honestly believe the guy is a racist and deliberately chose to ruin his career by deliberately calling MLK a "coon"?

For you? Apparently very little. For me, it would have to be much more than an honest slip of the tongue.
