Everything! It is the source of civilization!

1) it challenged the power of the liberal state [Rome] which had been the source of evil on earth and thus limited the damage the state could do

2) it taught that the each individual was special and loved by God, and so not merely worthless fodder for state slavery or military service.

3) it taught people to form families and to love, honor, and obey the one person with whom they had sex and children.

No its not the source of civilization. That's silly, as are your three points. You're being ever so terribly melodramatic and ignoring history.

"We" don't owe christianity anything but they owe us a lot of back taxes.

dear if you don't think Christianity is the source of civilization you have to say why or admit as a typical liberal you lack the IQ to support what you say. You should just read posts and not comment.

Don't forget that debt of gratitude owed for the Inquisition.

Love, honor, burning alive at the stake.

And don't forget the centuries following the fall of the Roman empire, and the spread of Christianity throughout Europe....also known as the Dark Ages.

Liberalism is actually a political philosophy based on belief in progress, the essential goodness of the human race, and the autonomy of the individual and standing for the protection of political and civil liberties: specifically : such a philosophy that considers government as a crucial instrument for amelioration of social inequities (as those involving race, gender, or class)

Every conservative administration this country has ever had was a very powerful central govt

Jesus was a crucial instrument for amelioration of social inequities, as those involving class.

too stupid!! Firstly, he was very very conservative in that he opposed the power of the state. Secondly, he was very conservative in that he enshirned the importance of the individual.

Social inequities??? were caused by the State's arbitrary use of its power. Catching on now?

dear, do you think that nullifies the creation of Western Civilization?

Dear, it nullifies your silly, skewed version.

Western Civilization came about as the inevitable result of myriad contingencies, fateful choices—some sound, some catastrophic—and unforeseen happenstance.

It happened, and the world is a better place for it. However, the seeds of democracy were planted by Greek philosophers and drawing nourishment from
ancient Roman philosophy, the Magna Carta, etc., began germinating in the work of Renaissance thinkers and scientists, and started to bloom during the Enlightenment. You may be interested to learn, dear, that the Age of Enlightenment was a result of the waning influence of the Church - the Christian Church that aided the Dark Ages in Europe.

See, dear, this is the risk you take for being a religious kook.

He isn't a religious kook. He is person willing to glorify God in the public forums in spite of godless men and devils. I'm sure God is sitting on his throne reading his words and is delighted with Edward right now!

Let us say, for the sake of argument(and yes, there is bound to be lots of argument here), we do owe christianity for its contributions.

Tell me, How do we repay a religion? Also, does this not also mean we need to repay Judaism and Islam as well? and, How much?

Boy, the church is always looking for new ways to get into your wallet!!
