WHAT IS A LIE:

A lie is a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive.
It requires that the speaker knew his statement was false. Simple mistakes
are not lies.

A lie must also be a statement of fact. Opinions are not statements of fact.

If I say:"You are a fool", that is an OPINION.

Compare that with this statement: "You served 3 years in prison", which is a statement of fact and may qualify as a lie if it is not true.

If you call me a fool, yet your true opinion of me is that I am wise, then you have told a lie. Same as if I tell my lady friend that she doesn't look fat when I really believe she is fat. False opinions are lies.
