Come on liberals defend this guy

I guess the right to be shot for being suspected of bearing arms is one of the unenumerated rights reserved for the states and the people.

Does anyone wonder what the reaction would have been if the guy on the ground in a pool of blood had been black?

A fair sample of US police are showing themselves to be out of control trigger happy slow thinkers?

No, it would be "If I had a son, he would have looked like him", "The police acted stupidly", "Too many young black men are gunned down by police for no reason". It's what we've been hearing for 7 years now. Where ya been?

Is no one in the US concerned about the quality of your police and the thrust of their training?

Info

This happened Aug 11th 2014. The article that video is part of ( won't let me link to anything but the video, so you'd have to click on the OP video to get to the article ) says:

"Taylor, 20, and the two men he was with matched the descriptions of a 911 caller who said three men had "flashed" a gun. And Cruz saw them "making a scene" on their way to the 7-Eleven near 2100 S. State Street. Confronted by officers, the two men with Taylor held up their hands, while Taylor alone was "noncompliant."

Body-cam video shows that Taylor turned toward officers with his hands in his pants before hoisting his shirt — a gesture officers are trained to recognize as a possible weapon-draw. "Nothing that Mr. Taylor did assisted in de-escalating the situation," Gill said. "If anything, it escalated things."

Taylor's shooting was justified, Gill said, not because he posed an actual threat, but because Cruz reasonably perceived a threat. "Officer Cruz's belief that Dillon Taylor was armed with a gun and intended to use it against the officers was reinforced by Dillon's actions and the acts of others," Gill wrote in a letter to Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank. "By the time Dillon drew his hands from his waistband, Officer Cruz's belief that Dillon was presenting a weapon [and ... would use the weapon against officers] was reasonable."

It should be noted that there were three separate officers shouting at Taylor to put his hands up and after his two buddies had complied and were behind covered by the other two officers this officer showed up on the scene to apprehend Taylor. (see below)

The protests already happened ~ Dozens protest death of Dillon Taylor shot by SLC police officer fox13now.com

Then dirt came out ~ Utah Local News - Salt Lake City News Sports Archive - The Salt Lake Tribune

"At the time of Taylor's shooting, court documents show he had a $25,000 bench warrant for a probation violation in connection with felony robbery and obstructing justice convictions."

And some more dirt ~ DA Sim Gill Officer was justified in South Salt Lake shooting of Dillon Taylor fox13now.com

"Footage from the officer’s body camera (see video above) shows Officer Cruz repeatedly ordered Dillon to show his hands.

On the footage Taylor can be heard saying “Nah, fool.”

Taylor quickly raised his left hand from inside his waistband, lifted his shirt level with his armpit and quickly brought out his right hand.

At that time Officer Cruz shot Taylor twice.

Police were originally called to the convenience store in South Salt Lake to check reports of a person with a gun.

Officials said Taylor’s blood alcohol level was .18 percent when he was shot, well above the .08 legal limit.

DA Gill said Taylor’s Facebook posts show he was suicidal before the shooting.

Just two days before Taylor was shot and killed, he made the following posts on his Facebook page."
(Taylor's FB posts are on there. He claimed he'd gotten out of a mental institution in May and wasn't on his meds, also a bit moody/suicidal from the sound of it.)

Also from the same link:

"When police arrived they spotted the suspect, Taylor, leaving the gas station with two other individuals, his cousin and brother.

According to Sweeten, the officers demanded Taylor and the two others surrender.

Taylor did not follow orders; he kept walking when they confronted him.

Officers said Taylor reached toward his waist before they fatally shot him.

Taylor was wanted for a felony arrest warrant at the time of the shooting.

Taylor’s brother and cousin did comply with police and were not arrested."

The shooting was ruled as justified by the DA (pretty much as per the last paragraph in the first article there) ~ Salt Lake cop cleared in shooting of unarmed white man WREG.com

Gill seems to read as though police are justified in escalating situations and it is citizens' responsibility to de-escalate situations.

Rather you guys than me.
