White House Learned of Lerner's Crashed Hard Drive 6 Weeks Before Congress

Linked article said:
In sworn testimony Friday, IRS Commissioner John Koskinen admitted that the IRS told the Obama administration about Lois Lerner's missing emails in April, six weeks before telling Congress, even though Congress had subpoenaed Lerner's emails as part of its investigation

The White House jumped at the opportuity provided by this disk crash, and needed the six weeks to delete all the emails that revealed its involvement, and scrub all the disks they had been on. Not until then could they give the IRS the go-ahead to tell Congress: One person's desktop PC had had a problem, resulting in the deletion of six different people's emails, even though most of those people had never used that computer.

Another piece of the mystery falls into place.
