It's true it's Hillary's turn, like it was with McCain and Dole.

Do Dems do that? They didn't last time: Hillary ran, but the one who won was a total unknown, just came into the Senate a couple years before. The GOP party professionals usually force the oldie into the nomination: remember the desperate anyone-but-Romney attempt by primary voters that went on for MONTHS, but the pros prevailed against their voters.

I think the GOP has run out of oldies-but-goodies and will have to start over with new people, so the Dems may follow suit. They were certainly successful with electing a new person last time. But I like your thinking and you may well be right.

Seriously are there any early contenders?

I don't think Hillary has anything sewn up yet. She's the favorite but this is a woman who has a severe likability problem with a key democratic demographic; women.

There is no doubt that she is the favorite. But there is also no doubt that she will have an uphill climb in the midwest, Rocky Mountain states, and the rural south. Democratic party primaries are not winner-take-all or at least they haven't been in the past. Getting 51% of the vote does not get you 100% of the delegates; it gets you 51%. So you have (or had to be anyway) strong everythwere or at least you can't be a no-show. She won't be albe to write off any of those areas.

If I were a Democrat, I'd be trying to groom a candidate that has fresh ideas in the post-Obama arena.

What have we learned in the last few months? One thing is that the sequester that took place hasn't resulted in the destruction of the nation. Wall street is up so confidence (misplaced though it may be) is on the rise. As it turns out, shockingly, making a tiny cut in the spending doesn't result in anything but tiny inconveniences....

Fresh ideas...they're needed more now than ever. The party that comes up with them will have entree to the seat of power (if not the Oval) for the next generation. Jumping outside of the paradox spending ever more money on programs that offer less and less security, services, and stability is a loser proposition. Spending less isn't the answer; spending smarter is . Analyzing what is needed and spending wisely is.

This is the nation's pendulum swing back in the opposite direction.
Going back to 1976...Nixon/Ford..GOP. The country was sick of scandals and oil embargoes. They elected Carter. Carter was such a weak president. Combine that with a crashed economy, the people reacted and elected Reagan. 8 years later the people had enough to conservatism and put the dems back in Congress. Yes, we elected GHW Bush but he was no conservative. Then along came Clinton. After 4 years of that, the country turned the dems out of the Congress and the economy zoomed and gave Clinton 4 more years. Had the dems put up a decent candidate in 2000, Bush 43 would probably not been Bush 43. Anyway, the country got sick of the GOP in Congress, they kept Bush 43 in office but handed the reins back to the Dems....And on and on we go.
This is actually healthy. Each of these cycles is a cleansing of sorts.
