Surprised a Native American is a strong Republican on here since the Republican Party often does things not in the best interest of Native Americans. My wife is half Native American, her father a full Cherokee, and she has been a strong democrat all her life.

What I've often found fascinating is that although there are over 300 tribal entities throughout the lower 48 states.....and although the Cherokee Nation is NOT the largest of these tribes, all those who claim SOME Indian heritage revert to being Cherokee.

Actually, in a way it is the duty of the government to determine who is Native American or who is not. Since the government uses tax payer money to pay for education and schools for the Native Americans , they need to make a determination of who is actually a Native American, and who may be making the claim just for a college grant.

I disagree talking to my ex cherokee girl friend (I used to ask her a lot of questions because I was fascinated about it) she told me you had to prove to the tribe you were 1/8th to get casino profits ..

Each tribe can decide on their own standard for who they consider citizens. Just as countries can decide who are citizens. However when it comes to getting grants from the Federal Government, well that requires 1/4 blood quantum, and you better be able to prove it. In other words, just because a tribe may consider you a citizen, if you want a college grant from the US government, you better have at least 1 grandparent who is full on Indian.

Most of us only know what we are based on what we've been told. As far as I know, I'm French Canadian, German, English, & Pensylvannia Dutch (actually German too). I've not done any ancestry check: just don't care that much.

Warren was told she was part Native American. She believed her grandma. So what? Why shouldn't she? Lots of Americans are told they have Native American blood. Unless you take it deadly serious, what is the problem? She didn't try to claim it to get any benefits, so it just doesn't matter. And Trump is way out of line attacking her for it when he did the same; but, that's one of the things he excels at--attacking others for doing things he has done himself.
