Zone1 Why Black Lives still Matter

And of course no one wanted to believe the suspects, what normal person would?? What they did was so over the top and extraordinary - any normal person would at first think it was an exaggeration.
Whether they "wanted" to believe them or not, a little bit of investigation would have provided some evidence apparently that they were telling the truth.

What is the excuse for not having done that initially? That cops are automatically believed and Black people are seldomly believed except in the instances where there is video/audio evidence and even then the victims are somehow made to be at fault.

The repercussions of the George Floyd panic, Defund the Police.

When the police quiet quit, we have a problem.
Republicans are talking about defunding the FBI and DOJ now because the false white god of racism is under indictment. Law enforcement needs to be reformed.

"And of course no one wanted to believe the suspects, what normal person would?? What they did was so over the top and extraordinary - any normal person would at first think it was an exaggeration."

This may seem over the top to certain whites, but in black, hispanic, Nartive American and other non white communities, there is nothing over the top about it. This has been going on since the first police department was formed.

LOL you're very confused Lisa, their name is "Black Lives Matter" not "Black Lives Matter More" but it's beyond funny that this is what you hear and actually see when you encounter the phrase "Black Lives Matter".
It’s obvious is that the intent is that Black Lives Matter more. Otherwise, why didn’t they orchestrate major mayhem when the cops killed the decent white guy in the hotel hallway rather than the defiant violent black ex-con?

And Lisa, there aren't all that many black ambushes of police. I realize that in your bigoted little world that you imagine all kinds of things, but the fact is that American policing started as slave patrols and white cops have been killing bnlacks ever since.
There aren’t that many cops killing unarmed, non-threatening blacks, either.

The lie is based on the “hands up, don’t shoot” Michael Brown angel.

And in your bigoted world, you talk only about cops killing blacks - when more whites have been killed by them. And except for a rare case, it’s all been justified homicide.

The story linked here is atrocious. And by that I mean an atrocity, start to finish. No doubt about it, this wasn't just acting out of stress or misjudging the situation. This was a horror show. They should be convincted.

But.

If we have any hope of surviving--I personally think we do not so this is for those who do, but anyway--we should treat these stories as cases of horrid, messy, stinky cancer that is nonetheless contained and not malignant and widespread. Because when we do, we accuse all officers of this, basically, and then they can't do their very difficult jobs.

So they don't do them.

And then we see the cities in the shape they're in.

But we can't do that; we must vilify the group because that's how we roll in the 21st century. I know, I'm a teacher.

So we continue to rot. Oh well.

To me the bigger issue is not just a group of six thug policemen but that they could exist for as long as they did.

When two black men are arrested and hospitalized with suspicious injuries their complaints need to be taken seriously.
It took months before the true story came out.

This Goon Squad had existed for a while. I doubt if they kept their conquests to themselves. Other deputies must have been aware that these guys were bad apples and kept their mouths shut.

Police need the publics confidence to exist

Continued cases of excessive force with unarmed, nonviolent suspects do not instill confidence.
It creates an environment where people won’t cooperate with police, where juries will not believe the testimony of police

They’re very rare when they do occur.

.....and when the police know they have lost the trust of the public, they "quiet quit". Happened in NYC. Who wants to take a vacation there now?

Another clueless retort about “All lives matter”

George Floyd was murdered by cops who did not care about his well being
Another clueless retort about "Black Lives Matter"
George Floyd, a lifelong criminal and drug addict and father of 5 kids who he all abandoned was caught trying to rob a store while on so much Fentanyl that his blood levels are considered fatal. Once arrested for robbery and aggravated assault on a pregnant women by pointing a gun on the baby inside her in Texas. On video he refused medical attention offered to him not once, twice, but three times. As the fatal amount of Fentanyl he took started taking peak effect, he began complaining to an officer he can't breath. The officer sat him in the back of a cruiser and again asked if he needed an ambulance, he refused. When the investigation was over and they began to arrest Floyd, he kicked at the officers who pulled him out of the vehicle where he again complained he couldn't breathe. Since he had been saying this repeatedly for over 30 minutes all the while refusing medical help - no one took him seriously anymore. Continuing to resist and fight officers trying to handcuff him, officer Chauvin rolled him onto his stomach, now handcuffed. Chauvin pinned him to the ground using his knee on the back of Floyds neck for an extended period of time. During which time, eventually the fatal dose of Fentanyl together with the difficulty breathing due to Chauvin pinning him to the ground - he died.
So let's make a hero out of him and wear tshirts where he looks like he is a saint.

No Lisa, there is no obvious "other" meaning to the plain and simple words "Black Lives Matter".

You interpreting this proclamation as stating that Black Lives Matter MORE is just another symptom of the angst you feel about Black people finally being listened to, our words being taken more seriously, and measures being taken to take serious steps towards correcting some of the societal wrongs that have long gone unaddressed, at least not in any serious way.

I have no idea what you're going on about with the "decent" white guy and the ex-con Black guy.

Interesting spin on the facts
A typical “blame the victim” screed from Conservatives

What you leave out is that if this is true, Chauvin could have presented this excuse to the jury and would not be sitting in prison right now

Lisa is offended that black lives matter at all

That is why she constantly creates threads complaining about the number of black people on TV, serving her in restaurants and just generally annoying her

This actually brings to mind the scandal involving the Rampart Division of the Los Angeles Police Department. They were some really bad cops and I believe many of them got off pretty easily. I don't think any of them did any time:

The Rampart scandal was a police corruption scandal which unfolded in Los Angeles, California, United States, during the late 1990s and early 2000s. The scandal concerned widespread criminal activity within the Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums (CRASH) anti-gang unit of the Los Angeles Police Department's Rampart Division. More than 70 police officers were initially implicated in various forms of misconduct, including unprovoked shootings and beatings, planting of false evidence, stealing and dealing narcotics, bank robbery, perjury, and cover-ups thereof.[1]
Of the 70 officers initially implicated, enough evidence was found to bring 58 before an internal administrative board. However, only 24 were actually found to have committed any wrongdoing, with twelve given suspensions of various lengths, seven forced into resignation or retirement, and five terminated.[2] As a result of the falsified evidence and perjury by Rampart CRASH officers, 106 prior criminal convictions were overturned.[3]
The scandal resulted in more than 140 civil lawsuits against the City of Los Angeles, costing the city an estimated $125 million in settlements.[4] Partly as a result of the scandal, Mayor James Hahn did not rehire Police Chief Bernard C. Parks in 2002. Both the scandal and the de facto firing of Parks are believed to have precipitated Hahn's defeat by Antonio Villaraigosa in the 2005 mayoral election.[5][6]

You don’t know what I’m talking about with the decent white guy in the hotel hallway??

That right there shows the BLM, and you, think Black Lives Matter More. You for sure know when a violent ex-con is killed by police, but not a white guy.
